I get that but surely that is something for the league to sort out.

You can set as many rules as you want with regards to how many players are being paid, but who is going round to check if any players are actually "working behind the bar".  Alternatively, how are they going to know if a third party is paying players?

Thing is though, this isn't what has caused the BCL to get in the position it has.

Too many clubs have been run badly and there's also the problem that in certain areas kids just aren't interested in playing the game, which results in no youth setups and therefore no kids naturally progressing through to the first team.  Sadly, the flip side of this is also a problem, where kids are keen but see no chance of progression because the first team is full of mercenaries.  Mercenaries who, let's say, refuse to play T20 games on a Friday night because they won't get paid for it.

It's nigh on impossible for the vast majority of teams to win the BCL (as it THIS season) given the amount of money thrown at players by certain clubs.

There wont be anyone in the GMCL who can compete with WH and their spending in 2023 or 24

I expect them to be GMCL champions in 2 years.

We will do well to get promoted.

Probably found our level, which all teams should do.

Shame this, id happily play vets/piss pots cricket on a sunday, given a chance

When did kids fall out with cricket

Kids haven't. Well, not at all clubs.

To my knowledge there's thriving junior set ups at Howfen, FSC, Lostock & RMI.

Indeed. Too much emphasis on screens for kids almost as soon as they have the mental capacity to hold onto mum’s iPhone.

Have a word with @scoobydoo he may be able to get you a game next season with Taverners I don’t think they have a vets team.

Add to that Heaton, Bradshaw, Egerton and Edgeworth - all GMCL. Been some fantastic junior cricket on show this season.

We (Heaton) have literally 100s of kids down on a Friday night.

Cricket is alive and well for youngsters in this area.

Even better 👍 Back in the 70s spent lots of time at Bradshaw as my auntie lived on Dene Bank.

Reading Twatter it seems that Little Lever are also thriving with juniors.

Heart warming to read. Although Blackrod's juniors are probably gonna get poached by the Racists....

Anyone can say they have good juniors 🙄

You're right. After your 1 good year in 2021 you won nowt in 2022 👍 Did plenty sulking/fighting/abusing though...

Although you've missed the point. It's not about having good juniors, it's about having lots of juniors wanting to play cricket.

Not sure which junior team you’re dismissing here as Bradshaw, Little Lever and Blackrod were all mentioned in the quoted post.
