July 18, 201412 yr The first time I ever saw gayers of the 'real' type - i.e. not John Inman or Larry Grayson etc. was on 'Whicker's World' when he was Down Under, I think he did a big section about the Sydney Gay Mardi Gras... Anyhow, it was one of those times when your parents start talking loudly and trying to distract you off the telly as he interviewed all these screamers. In short, Australia more or less invented it (being a open and flamboyant gaylord/gaylordess) - I blame Thomas Cook and the Navy.
