I'm not a fan of what I'm about to say because it's used unnecessarily at times. But Oldham is a proper northern club. Good to see them back in the league. Chuffed for 'em.

You’d of won a few quid on that. Consensus was it was all done and dusted.

I had Bochum 3-0 win at 18-1 but bottled it & cashed out after 70 mins

twenty minutes is a long time in football ! Hard to believe no more goals .

Wasn’t watching it by the way.

Have been in Düsseldorf’s stadium watched Leverkusen v Bayern in the German cup , fantastic stadium but hardly used then when Fortuna were in League 3 & playing out of the city on a shared ground watched by 7-8 thousand.

The inhabitants of Cologne will be delighted Fortuna didn’t make it as they have just been relegated from the top flight & the rivalry between the cities is ferocious.

Nice derby games for them.

More harvesting for the farmers tonight? Febrile atmosphere to overcome but it would not surprise me if they did.

That’s a disgrace considering how immaterial ticket revenue is when you’re in the prem.

It is.

Illustrates the problem with increased revenue- increased (irresponsible) spending, so often no better off.

Players simply getting bigger and bigger wages.

Wasn't sure what you was about so went and checked, what a pointless competition

 Pointless. Aye, reet. Ask Roma or West Ham fans or even Villa fans who wanted it badly.

Third tier European competition  is correct and probably more suited to your failed quadruplegics rather than anything higher?

for the fans yes I get that, but it's a meaningless comp all the same

you need to finish about 7th in the league to qualify ffs

...and finishing 7th in the PL is piss easy as we all know

Anyway, we have the potential of great delight in Radcliffe Whites 'other team' Ratcliffe's Reds being relegated from the Europa League to the Conference League due to ownership rules. Ineos. Nice (see what I did there?).

whichever they end up in, it's the failure version anyway

Who had the better season?

United or Liverpool?

Iirc I asked a similar question a while ago- most agreed they'd take an fa cup win and relegation over staying up and nowt else.

On that basis, I suppose you'd say Utd, as the FA cup is perhaps more prestigious.

Probably wouldn't get agreement though within either of their fan bases.

I see what you did there.

United (like Oxford) got the bigger trophy/prize, but Liverpool (and Bolton) had a 'better' season.

It's easily sorted unfortunately

As Villa did with Guimaraes along with Brighton and Union Saint-Gilloise

Are you sure?

After all CL is just an extended cup.

Qualification and no trophy- would it get a bit dull after a while?

It's all about attracting the best players, playing the best teams and trying to win the biggest trophy of them all

I'd say for the "top" teams it's more desirable than the fa cup

That said the top teams mostly always win it anyway

I'm sure the clubs themselves would take CL every time

I'm sure the fans wouldn't mind  an FA cup every now and again, but missing out on CL can be seen as a set back

So depends really

I'm sure City would rather CL over fa cup

Am sure someone like Villa or Newcastle would love a cup as it's been so long

What constitutes a top team in terms of Champions League?

I get where you're coming from, but that competition has been denuded for me, by the change to a mini-league.

As you say, fans may have different perspectives, but winning something is always a top feeling.

I think the ayatollah is correct. The megabucks involved with CL qualification trumps lifting some silverware. Not with fans BTW. With fat cat owners only in it for the money. They don't feel what we feel. We have longevity and tradition.

No doubt about that!

Wonder where a manager would stand: always looks good with trophies on a cv?
