I'm not a fan of what I'm about to say because it's used unnecessarily at times. But Oldham is a proper northern club. Good to see them back in the league. Chuffed for 'em.

Indeed. Bring back the days of second and third replays.

Malcolm, the answer is 6 in the qualifying rounds and 5 in the proper rounds. Arsenal v Wednesday being the last to go that many in 78/79 season.

Fucking replays off would be horrendous news for a lot of smaller clubs.

Yes, but the FA don't really give a fuck about them - it's all about helping us to win the World Cup and helping the "big boys" do better in the CL

I can see why they're only talking about getting rid of replays from this round on wards, as in the main, it doesn't affect the smaller clubs (all depending on what we class as a "smaller" club)

Yes, but the Bury v Stoke tie in 1955 meant that Stoke played 5 successive matches against Bury (at Gigg Lane, Victoria Ground, Goodison, Anfield and Old Trafford). Bury at least managed to fit in one league match (v Leeds).

The 3 neutral Arsenal v Sheffield Wednesday matches were all at Filbert Street.

OK, you win!

fuck off the tours to Malaysia, China, Australia etc if they wanna win the world cup and all that bollocks. Solution solved

Correct....but we all know that is never going to happen

There is often talk of a winter break, if we did get a winter break, the big teams would just bugger off for lucrative tours of the Far East, so wouldn't get any rest at all.

It's all about the money now, and any major changes made will only be made in order to increase income

Not a fan of the mid winter break either.

However, replays are fucking shiite! If a lower league club has to rely on one  against a Premier league club every 7 or 8 years (as that is probably the number of times it happens) then its deserves to go out of business.

FFS the FA cup and League cup games are currently being played in front of meagre crowds as is. Domestic cup football is almost dead already and it needs a massive shake up.

The league cup final could be played sometime in December with the first second and third rounds played before the end of August.

They need to sack the replays off in the FA cup and allocate the winner a champions league place and fuck 4th place off.

Kick out the smaller clubs, just go to the last 8, the top 8 in the Prem from the year before

FA would be shit scared of shite like Wigan winning the FA Cup and then fucking up their co-efficient for the 4th CL place by being wank in the CL.

I can see the football Calendar changing forever following the Qatar World Cup shift for the winter World Cup

I think a summer season of football would be great, I.e starting in March through to December. Much prefer to go the game when the weather is better

You would be dead in 5 years with 46 all dayer excuses

That's the point, I doubt Wigan would have won it, you would have all teams taking it seriously if you had a CL place up for grabs. Especially if it got you straight into the group stage along with the PL winners. It's desperate for that additional benefit for it to become significant again

In terms of league Cup I'd look at making it a UK league Cup with Scottish, Welsh and NI league teams involved. It needs something new and the ability to play some new teams in a competitive tournament would give it a bit of that (granted that not many of the other leagues will be of great standard but it would open up plenty of new grounds for travelling fans)

Internationally I'd like to see an annual 6 nations style tournament between us, France, Italy, Spain, Germany & Holland every year. Fixtures spread over the course of a calendar year replacing meaningless friendlies. The standard should help us going into Euro's and WC's whilst also providing the FA with much needed TV revenue to go into grass roots football

4th place is not guaranteed  a CL spot.

And why is it called Champions League?

And why is it called Champions League?

Marketing.

Marketing.

Doesn't it break advertising law, though?

What with not being for champions only and mostly not being a league?

Its a dogwank competition. Far better when one cup for winners and another for runners up/cup winners.

All money for the bent fuckers in FIFA.

Exactly. It's all bollocks. I have no sympathy for them or the winter break.

The problem was that with one competition for champions and another for the next 3 best teams from the major leagues the latter was more difficult to win.

That's the point, I doubt Wigan would have won it, you would have all teams taking it seriously if you had a CL place up for grabs.

Wigan still had to beat city mind And arsenal in the semis

And look at who generally wins it

One of the teams competing for the top 4 mostly

I think it's more scudamore and the premier league wouldn't be keen. Even then I think UEFA have to agree it. Sadly I can never see this happening

What would happen in a tournament year though?

I like the traditions of winter football, but there's a lot to be said for the prospect of piss ups at the football in July

That's the only issue I suppose

But would it be better sacrificing 4 weeks of tournament every 2 years for a better set of fixtures year in year out

Keep it winter for me. What else is there to do!
