Been searching for a kids nicked bike around Bolton today, I had a good drive round and saw some disgusting sights, took about 40 pictures of back streets with shit dumped everywhere, mattresses sofas the fuckin works.

Only people from Bolton will go into Bolton. I've not heard of one person in my whole life who has chosen to go into Bolton town centre for anything other than a few beers before the match.

 

My wife and her mate went shopping for wedding shoes in Manchester today weirdly enough. Bolton is probably behind Mogadishu in the list of alternate places they could have gone.

 

It's not a dig. Just the way it is. That's why the town is failing, because nobody spends any money there.

Bolton used to be a magnet for many local surrounding towns and their yocals...Leigh, Athy, Bongs, Horwich, Howfen, Radcliffe, the Levers, Farnworth etc...there's probably a quarter of a million people all told. Decent public transport links (could be better) make/made it easy enough to get to which is just as well when you have the parking Nazis in town doing their best to kill trade

 

Trouble is, like said so many times, other places have moved with the times, Bolton has not. It is a hovel full of pisscans, bagrats, poundshops, and places to sell stolen goods.

 

We drive through Bolton to get to Bury, it saddens me, and even though I would rather shove darts up my arse than shop in Wigan, there  is another place which has reinvented and done well for itself.

 

Also, some people, myself included despise the Trafford Centre - it makes my teeth itch, fucking horrible place. I like traditional shopping environment with independants and market stalls, fresh produce next to a cobblers...its a much more interesting place than an identikit row of indoor shops selling the same stuff as every other out of town retail outlet.

 

Bolton has so much potential and some brilliant buildings; proof being when they run the food festival - the place is rammed. The council have just fucked it up for a generation by developing nowt but student accommodation, mosques, cycle lanes, and out of town retail parks. They are reaping what they sew.

It's ok at Nelson Sq, for about 3 yards.

 

I went into town last week, pulled into Silverwell St at 5.20, ready to nip in to Rice'n'Three for my tea... They wanted a quid for 30 mins, and you know there will be a parking Nazi there at 5.50 to do me, so it was £1.50 for 40 mins essentially. Yep, I fucked it off. And given the place was empty, I guess everyone else has too.
