What The Club Need To Do...

They need to try and attract some fans back for the remaining home fixtures. Most of them will be "nothing games" and arent going to attract fans at normal prices. We need to get some ticket deals on. Get our marketing team to push these deals and try and get people back.

Hopefully that will have a knock on effect on st sales for the season after

Whats everyone think??

Yes because that's what people are saying. Put your dummy back in.

These £10 tickets exist but they are not as freely available as you seem to think.

This £8 a season ticket is bollocks as well. Why not discuss it properly. It may be what the club see and be from the accounts but the fact is that is not the cost of an adult ticket. Your ticket isn't costing you £8 a game. If it is then charging £30 for a ticket is ridiculous.

my adult ticket is less than 15 quid a game

my kids get in for 3 quid a game

avergae arse on seat is 8 pounds odd per game

its clearly too cheap

season tickets are too cheap and they should be increased in price to subsidise the folk who pick and choose their games

They are increasing in price. Our ticket revenue is going down year on year though

them fans can stay away for all I care if fans of clubs ditched their teams because of bad runs or bad oppointments then ni fucker would watch football. I'm more bothered about the fans we have lost through the financial side of it

But they are the 10 thousand or so fans that this thread is about, how to get them back

£15 a game is reasonable (seems to be what the general consensus is on the thread)

How is it acceptable for it to be almost double that for pay on the day.

I am talking adults here. Not kids.

Also what happens when old folks die and we haven't encourage people to come.

It's not as black and white as you make it.

I am prepared to get you a certificate for being a

Top fan if it means you will discuss it sensibly and stop ignoring the problem. People are not saying it's expensive for season ticket holders.

People say the club aren't doing anything. But they introduced the ability to spread season ticket payments across a number of months, interest free. That was a pretty nice incentive to encourage people to buy STs. They have run loads of cheap ticket promotions in the past, at what point do you accept that cheap tickets short term do not lead to larger crowds longer term?

And we're now in a league and a situation where our competitiveness in the transfer market is linked directly to our revenue. So it is reasonable that just reducing ticket prices across the board isn't happening unless the club believe that they can make up the loss via extra sales. Which as they've said time and time again rarely if ever happens.

I think £26 is too dear. I absolutely agree. But at the same time a price drop might bring about a temporary upturn in attendances but longer term the only thing that will is success on the field, which relies on the revenue generated.......

£5 tickets for season ticket holders friends vs millwall

Well done

The problem with that example is the economics of luxury goods aren't the same as necessary goods.

Also football fans are less likely (though some might) go and watch Wigan because it's cheaper, whereas they will go to Asda or tesco

Some of the fans we would previously have counted on - people living in Leigh and Atherton for example - have started going to Wigan in recent years, because they've really pushed cheap tickets and marketed the hell out of them in a way we haven't.

The football model isn't identical to the supermarket business model but it's similar in the sense that when something's failing (losing 3k fans in 3 years I would say is failing) then remedial action is normally taken...or the model keeps on failing. And while Morrisons shoppers may go to Tesco to get what they want, priced out BWFC fans will choose a cheaper option too - like the cinema if they've got kids, or dodgy TV in a pub or on their laptop if they really want to see the match.

£5 tickets for season ticket holders friends vs millwall

Well done

Can anyone lend me a friend?

Aren't they just relying on season ticket holders to do their job for them though? Why not offer a discount to the season ticket holder if they bring a friend, if that friend then buys a full price ticket for another match? Otherwise it's just giving a cheap ticket to someone who doesn't really have any vested interest in the club.

The question is, why have these fans drifted off?

Have they been asked? Is it just price? Is it the quality of the football? The stewarding? The shite service & quality of product from the kiosk? The Policeing? The transport? The number of midweek games this season? A combination of a few or all?

There are many things that piss me off at the match, cost is probably way down the list.

However, the people I know that go on a adhoc basis, cost is definitely up there, the reason they don't have season tickets are out of their control. One lad works nights, a third of the games this year at home have been midweek & he travels home & away on Saturdays, if you get a few expensive aways on the trot a home game gets sacrificed. Another lad works 1 in 3 saturdays, same scenario! Another depends on his lads football, same scenario!

All of them miss some pointless home fixtures they could attend, all down to cost, but it's not their fault they can't commit to a season ticket. Pay on day match prices are too high for some.

Why are we still doing Catergories as well? Simplify it, 1 price for all games, it's just perceived as profiteering, which puts people off. It's not like we're selling out, it isn't supply & demand, it's just stupid, get rid.

On the day match tickets queues are stupid too. If I was to arrive on the train, walk all round the stadium, queue, buy a ticket for the West Stand, walk all the way back round the stadium, maybe in the rain or cold, there's a good 30-40+ minutes of a job. Hardly convenient for a last minute dash job. Why not have a couple of Windows on the West side for match day tickets only, maybe a cash turnstile for the North stand. We just put barriers in the way of fans.

& don't get me started on Stewards, Concessionaries etc we've done those to death.

All sensible ideas. Particularly scrapping categories and having cash turnstiles.

You can't underestimate the Freedman factor. The last two seasons have been a write off. I actually think the missing supporters will be back when our league position improves. I don't see the need to panic about it. If we were top of the league and only pulling in the sort of crowds we're getting now, i'd be more worried.

Good ideas Bowtun Baked. I'll pass em on.

If Wigan are being held up as an example of a club who have pushed cheap tickets and marketed them well, why are their home attendances down about 3000 on average this season to last?

If cheap tickets and marketing them were the answer that wouldn't be happening. You've actually just debunked your whole argument.

Also your mention of cinema is interesting. Cinema attendances have fallen in recent years and what has been the response? Cheap tickets? No. In fact the prices have actually gone up. Cinema is far more analogous to football in that the costs are fixed whether you have 10 or 1000 people in watching. Supermarkets are totally different. They can give products away as loss leaders and make it back elsewhere. Bolton Wanderers cannot do that effectively. It is why every supermarket pretty much can claim they're the cheapest because they offer reductions on a specific range. But most folk buy across a broader range and so are saving on some stuff in Asda but spending more on other stuff than they would if they'd gone to Tesco. Again football doesn't work like that.

Wigan's have fallen because they were punching massively above their weight in the Premier League years. It's still a rugby town - they'll be down to 5k in no time. We have 140 years of history that they don't.

On cinemas, you could take two adults and two kids for what it costs to watch a Championship match against Millwall. Reason fewer people are going to cinemas is cos you can download films for nowt...it's not the cost of admission.

Categories are here to stay as the visit of Leeds and to a lesser extent Sheffield Wednesday, Wolves plus the odd current form team, but mostly Leeds is our biggest pay day.

I'll tell you what, if we have lost fans to wigan then they are welcome to the fickle cunts.

So you've actually just proven the cost of tickets is irrelevant. Wigan are losing fans because they're not doing very well. Same as us.

Go back to 93/94, Rioch's second season. Our first back in the second division (now championship). Our average home attendance was just under 10,000.

The notion that we're a massive football town and just losing fans because of high ticket prices is just not borne out by any statistic. We are getting lower crowds because we are near the bottom of the championship. Higher crowds in fact than the last time we were near the bottom of this league.

Going off this can we finally all accept we are a small club with shit support who should be embarrassed by thinking teams like United give a shit about us? No.....then we need to address the issue of on the day costs being ridiculous

In 93-94 we'd had more than a decade of what looked like terminal decline. 10k was double what we'd been getting 5 years before.

Wigan's crowds were always going to fall because they built up from nothing in no time at all. Many of their 'fans' were day trippers in the Prem who were attracted to watching the big names. I'm not saying we should be relying on that kind of punter, but every club needs some of them - most club's hardcore support isn't enough to fill their stadium.

Thats the point. We have historically attracted far bigger crowds in the top flight. It is time to stop pretending that our crowds are any different to Wigan. In the premiership or when competing for promotion we can have 22,000 + fans on. But a number of those, thousands of those in fact aren't interested if we're struggling near the wrong end of the table.

You only need look how our attendances dropped whilst still a premiership club. The 2 or 3 thousand we added whilst the likes of Hierro took us into Europe, are just as disposable as the 10,000 we added going up at Wembley against Reading.

I am merely questioning what evidence you have that lowering ticket prices will over the long term bring in significantly bigger gates. Because your example that you chose to use, has demonstrated the very opposite of that. And my assertion is, that if we go up and raise the ticket prices the gates would still be higher because simply we have a lot of people who want to watch Premiership football locally and aren't really Bolton Wanderers fans in the old fashioned sense, but align themselves to the club through locality. Getting those (who make up the difference between when we got a full house and now) to come regularly to watch us at the bottom of this league isn't going to happen whatever you do with ticket pricing. You could give them away and after a few weeks the novelty would wear off and gradually you'd end up back at the same number.

£8 to watch Chorley v Holker Old Boys tonight, and there's no booze on sale. Fucking rubbish!

The only point I can make in defence of cheaper tickets is the average 2nd division attendance and away following we had in the 70's and 80's which in my memory always seemed larger (I dare some one will prove me wrong) but I also realise the fact you could usually decide to travel last thing and didn't need to purchase a ticket beforehand probably had an effect.

I get that.

Though I couldn't give a shit about away supporters, this is a thread about filling the home ends. I'd hope a more sensible pricing structure would bring in extra revenue from home support.

Stop those games mentioned feeling like we're the away team too, something I know I'm not alone in feeling.

When the home support starts playing second fiddle to away support revenues it's a sad day & a downward spiral. Something we're trying to debate the decline of.
