So, I'm Getting Laid Off...

Gutted... I feel royally fucked over, but ultimately blame myself. I am a civil servant, who was supposed to have a 12 month fixed term contract... The role I applied for was obsolete before I started, so was immediately moved into another. Within a month a few of us were made up into another position... All going well until a change in structure. Fell at one of the last hurdles for my initial position.

5 weeks notice which I have to work, and perform a handover...

Feels like I've been dumped by my missus, but must now sit there with her and watch soaps, whilst she is finger blasted by my mate

can you not go on sick?

I wouldn't want it on my record... I suppose self respect will kick in at some point... But she's still getting fingered. Would my next missus expect me to have finished the job? Getting cuckold now; this analogy is getting weird!

What is it that you do?

I'm a investigator/caseworker for an ombudsman... Basically a glorified complaint handler

how good a mate is he

If your being made redundant they usually allow you to go for interviews on 'company time'

If it's that bad take the piss and have one a day giving you a load of late starts or early finishes

There's plenty of recruitment agency's out there that will interview you for potential vacancies

Been through summat similar a few year back mate. Im sorry to hear this and appreciate it's a worrying time. Best advice I could give is a bit boring.

Don't burn any bridges and serve them 5 weeks.

Don't have a few weeks to stew on it, get applying today.

Get a smart cv or in my case a mate to do one.

Stay positive as it could potentially be the best thing that happened to you.

I wish you the best of luck.

Has happened to me and (cliche alert) worked out great

Get cracking asap to find something else

Happened to me too like others have said but have eventually ended up with a fab job I love. It takes time though sometimes. Get that CV spruced up but be prepared to take a job you don't particularly want if that's all that's going and keep positive. You can carry on then looking for something you really do want.

You'll be reet, cocker x

Good time to get fit and lose a bit of timber?

  • Author

Am on it; cheers folks. Tbf they have said I can have interview time, and I already work flexi-time. Will stay positive

I was made redundant last year after 16 years at the same place.

Best thing that ever happened to me.

The only downside is I actually have to do some work in my new job.

True, but also the name of a poem I wrote a couple of years back

That's a bit harsh.

Some of them graft their bollocks off 5 days a week.

The ones I know don't, though.
