frank_spencer Posted December 18, 2017 Posted December 18, 2017 Tampa won’t move nor will Miami but is it not mooted that Jacksonville are heading for London? They've long been the favourite especially with Shad Khan owning Fulham. The Rams were a possibility till they moved to LA. Raiders moving to Vegas ruled them out too. Quote
Escobarp Posted December 18, 2017 Posted December 18, 2017 Raiders have plenty of time to mull things over anyway now there season is over. Don’t know how people buy into the hype each year with that team. Living in the past Quote
bolty58 Posted December 18, 2017 Posted December 18, 2017 I’m still a novice to the going’s on with NFL What do you mean by ‘shares’ and how do they influence franchises moving from A to B Assume you mean ownership? Yes, ownership. Over 300,000 people in and around Green Bay own shares in the Packers. That figure was 70,000 when I first saw them play at Milwaukee Stadium - their second last ever game at that stadium before it was demolished (to make way for the Brewers stadium if I remember rightly). https://www.pro-football-reference.com/boxscores/199411060gnb.htm Maybe the below will prove of interest. https://www.elitedaily.com/sports/why-packer-fans-are-unique/1209188 https://www.newyorker.com/news/sporting-scene/those-non-profit-packers Quote
birch-chorley Posted December 18, 2017 Posted December 18, 2017 Good read that Bolty Interesting how their ownership is so different to the rest of the NLF teams Quote
bolty58 Posted December 19, 2017 Posted December 19, 2017 (edited) Good read that Bolty Interesting how their ownership is so different to the rest of the NLF teams Aye mate - it's down to history and what the packing Company meant to the town. Once Curly Lambeau established the team it was only natural that they would buy into the community identity big time. Game days are unbelievable in Green Bay. When the game is on you see not a soul. No traffic, no anything. You could fire an AK-47 in the shopping centres and not have a hope of hitting anyone. If ever you are lucky enough to visit Lambeau on a non game day, do the tour. There are other stadiums which also do it but Lambeau definitely makes the hairs on the back of your neck stand up - even when it's empty. The Don Hutson Centre is ace too and the interactive museum a must. I lost all sense of time the last time I visited and ended up 3 hours late for a business appointment! Oh, and not to forget the clincher. "Even the beer is cheaper than other stadia in the NFL" Got to love those Packers. Edited December 19, 2017 by bolty58 Quote
birch-chorley Posted December 19, 2017 Posted December 19, 2017 As it’s been sold out for so many decades and has a huge waiting list for season tickets why don’t they increase the capacity of the stadium? As they are a non profit I’d have assumed they would have enough funds to extend Quote

jimmyjoojar Posted December 19, 2017 Posted December 19, 2017 As a interested observer of NFL with little (fuck all) knowledge, I was reading that Colin Kaepernick previously filed a grievance complaint regarding collusion of team owner deliberately not giving him a contract to play NFL. Is this actually the case or more him being a bit shit and playing the victim card? Quote
enzo gambaro Posted December 19, 2017 Posted December 19, 2017 I don’t think he’s playing the victim at all, but I think the collusion theory is probably more to draw attention to his cause. There’ll be some who don’t need him, some who don’t want him and some who are cutting their nose off to spite their face so as not to break rank. He is a decent QB, but it’s not always a job you can just pick up mid-season. Quote

Not sure what Cam Newton thinks of this. Quote
frank_spencer Posted December 19, 2017 Posted December 19, 2017 He's a certain type of QB and would only fit in specific teams. Then add in he'd gone a bit poo as another knock Then him being the focal point of the protest and that's possibly the reasons Quote

As they are a non profit I’d have assumed they would have enough funds to extend The logical side of me says there must be some reason we don't know about (city rules and regs etc.). They are no mugs and are brilliantly run commercially so if there was an easy way to get more fans in I am sure they'd be doing it. Quote
MancWanderer Posted December 20, 2017 Posted December 20, 2017 Not a Packers fan (picked the Redskins in the original Channel 4 days) but they are the team that I respect most. To me they are exactly what the Prem needs - a "fuck you, fuck your money, we do things our way, which is the right way" - and I love them for that With regards to them building a bigger stadium to satisfy demand I will quote bolty here "They are no mugs and are brilliantly run commercially" They can win Superbowls and be successful with what they are. They don't have greedy owners who are in it for the money. Stable, successful and a massive draw to the community. Why change things. I doff my hat to them Quote

birch-chorley Posted December 21, 2017 Posted December 21, 2017 It holds 80k, how big do you want it to be? Enough to satisfy demand, or at least get closer to doing so Like I say, I’m new to NFL but was of the impression that some football games, particularly in college football will get 100,000+ through the door Quote

College football is amazing crowds wise. Texas Aggies, Michigan Wolverines, Penn State Nittany Lions etc. regularly get crowds of over 100,000. Also, a brilliant days entertainment. Looking forward to the Orange Bowl and hoping for a Badgers victory. I am sure the Packers will expand Lambeau if the opportunity arises. Confident that they will never move away from their spiritual home at that stadium though. Quote
birch-chorley Posted December 21, 2017 Posted December 21, 2017 I’d love to get to an NFL game over there Won’t be back for a couple of years but when I am it’s high on the list!! A trip to Green Bay might have to wait until I travel round North America when I retire, can’t see me going to Wisconsin in the meantime Quote

College football goes on longer with the fifth quarter and the entertainment side seems much more pronounced than the NFL. If you can manage to get along to one with a local and get heavily involved in the tailgating etc. it makes for a long and very enjoyable day out. Quote
Escobarp Posted December 21, 2017 Posted December 21, 2017 Try and get to buffalo birch if you can. I’ve done a number of nfl grounds and buffalo was the best atmosphere I experienced. Quote
birch-chorley Posted December 21, 2017 Posted December 21, 2017 Will do gents, cheers Suppose Buffalo could be tied in with Niagra falls which is on the list Probably best to avoid it in deepest winter based on the scenes in the snow last week Quote

birch-chorley Posted December 29, 2017 Posted December 29, 2017 Just catching up on the BBC NFL shows, it’s been great viewing again! Still not decided which team to adopt as my own, ideally be located somewhere that I am likely to visit on holiday now and then, which narrows it down to California or Florida really With that in mind I’m now thinking either LA Rams or San Fran. Whilst the Rams look good this season, San Fran could do well next time out now they have this Jimmy G at QB They play each other on Sunday so might just go with the winner! Quote
