Town Centre Latest

Just had a meeting on Churchgate. Sad to see the Bolton News offices empty. And in a week or two the Travel Counsellors building opposite will be empty. Another 200+ people spending approx £20 per week on parking and lunches in the town... plus whatever other services they spend their hard-earned on - all being lost. Very sad state of affairs.

When will it get better? Should these empty offices be turned into apartments?

Theres a different to a ghetto like deane or central drive near me to a working class council estate.

Saying you wouldn't live in the latter isnt snobbery, its just wanting a better quality of life.

Took my inlaws all their life to get out of grange park to a better place. Would they go back? Would they fuck.

I wouldn't move back to Bispham either.

No. I lived in succession of terraced houses. Didn’t have a garden until I was 30.

That make me a snob?

Did you start at the bottom of the street and work your way up? That was a joke. Anyone calling social housing a shithole or grim is a snob.
It has and always will be a case of lower income families living in lower quality accommodation. Snobs call it a shithole or grim.

Labour will sort it, we’ll all be living in middle class suburbia.

Have you ever lived on a council estate?

Yes.

Did you want to stay on it your entire life?

I know I didn’t.

Are you not thinking of council estates in the 60s where kids played spinning tops in the street and they had street parties with bunting and stuff?

I spent time working on these estates. The things I saw would turn your stomach. I ain’t going to lie, it was shit. Proper and in many cases, literal shit.

The same people who get snobby about council estate folk and accuse them of abusing the welfare system and furlough etc are often people who claim their investments have given them a cushy nest eggs.

Investments that are generally in massive corporations that have dollar a day employees and knowing avoid taxes and play the system as well.

It’s all levels.

We all, in Britain, are guilty of playing the system in some way.

I was out with two white blokes, but the place had plenty of non-whites in and I enjoyed chatting with them.
They sold pork scratchings, but the pool table had been moved for karaoke.

I think the host was called Gedupta Singh.

Haha I went with 2 white blokes as well.

I guess he’d pisssed off to Slovakia by the time I was up to my neck in shit on them.

These here council estates are full of people just like you and me. Aren’t they? I know many people who live on them ( I don’t have photos but some of them are pretty good cricketers😉)

I think J90 (male or female) has highlighted the unintentional class bigotry on here. Who’d have thought.

Of course they are. Some of my good mates live on council estates and like I say my in-laws did till 2 years ago. You wont meet nicer folk.

Still wouldn't live there for a gold clock like.

I have to disagree to some extent but I know what you are trying to say. I grew up in the typical working class terraced house surrounded by rows of them. We moved to a nicer area but quickly had to move back to another similar terraced house in another area when my parents split up. I could see at 9 years old where I preferred to be, that is not being a snob.

I made loads of great friends on those terraced streets that I still keep in touch with today. We all fondly remember the good times but gloss over the shite of growing up in these places.

If that’s related to me, it was Czech Republic. You’ve never experienced real shitholes until you witness the best of Soicialist housing. They’ve moved on now though. They realised socialism was shite and are now living happily ever after.👍

I drink bottled water and tap water.

Im basically Jesus.

Neither would I now but my whole point was not to discredit people who live in areas that they wouldn’t. People have to and you’d have thought that this very woke set of people who constantly pontificate their wokeness would not be so judgmental.
I sound like Johnny. It’s not me.😊

You’d like to though, wouldn’t you? Go on admit it. It’s shit by the way, according to those who lived through it.

Theres the odd set of youth round here that think they arw roadmen, think they are nails etc.

Equally theres a little group go in the bay horse, 2-3 in their 30's think they are big time, do a bit of beak on a friday after work and hardcore stuff like that.

Often have a little wry smile to myself thinking Id love to transport you all to a proper gaff.

Cunts wouldn't last 2 mintues :D

Would you say Thatcher selling all the council houses off led to estates being in the state they are today?

I thought you’d told us. I may be wrong. If so, I apologise for calling you a socialist.
