I don't understand which bit I'm supposed to be arguing with?

The bit where you think all Muslims want to kill all non Muslims? Because I was having dinner with Asif in the staff kitchen today and he had loads of opportunities to knife me in the neck while I was making my butty :)

The bit where the US and the West are a threat to the world ...😊

I bet you won't eat a sandwich in Tehran, whilst wearing a Bolton scarf ? 😉

Hmmm, ........what do you base that on ?

You really need to study history.

I don't think it was that controversial a point, was it?

i still think that leaked withdraw letter were on purpose .

hes fucking with the iran ayatolah types. even the 52 cultural sites thing was echoing their stick.

that hes doing it by mostly doing things in and about iraq (kills whatsit iranian in iraq , threatens to bill iraq for some airbase before theyll withdraw) , must be to 'optic' iraq into doing something about iranian interferance.

russias not said much , syrias not said much

both iran and iraq will seem to bend the knee , til they try to spit the dummy out next time.

they cant do nowt else other than ask russia , and they wont play coz they started it. ike when kim jong il were threatening to bomb guam or wherever. russia and china made them all stop.

next thing trump and kim were having tea in singapore.

Still carnt work out the thinking behind the k1 airbase thing over xmas.

Depends doesn't it ? He likes to be argumentative and contrary, so fan5 needed answering.

Do you see us in the West as a threat to the world ?

I don't see many foreign embassies issuing warnings over travel to the UK, Europe or the US....quite the opposite in fact.

The West? No

Trump? Yes

But whether it is or isn't, it seems clear to me that many people in Middle Eastern countries perceive it to be.

If that's the case, why do so many Middle Eastern people want to live in the West  ?

The vast  majority of them want a better life, away from tyranny and oppression,  for that I cannot fault them.

Except it doesn't.

In pretty much the same way Catholicism didn't explain the why the IRA blew up Warrington.

It’s exactly why Iranians and others from the Middle East who believe the western world is a danger to them believe it

sorry to disappoint

and your comparison. Is very poor. Indeed

I think the three most plausible threats to civilization are

a) Climate change

b) Nuclear War

c) A coronal mass ejection

I'd happily wear my Bolton scarf in Tehran so I could talk to fellow football fans about the illustrious careers of Alex Samizadeh and Andranik Teymourian. Might not mention Idan Tal or Tal Ben Haim mind!

I don't know how it could ever be determined that the "vast majority" want to live in the West (unless you're referring specifically to Iran, in which case I still think it's incorrect but would agree with you that the younger generation lean significantly towards more liberal, "Western" ideals than the older generation), although I recognise that people regularly move or desire to move to the West in the belief that doing so will offer them the opportunity for a better life.

But I think it's a mistake to think the issue is one about relative living standards rather than one about the actions and decisions of governments.

It isn't about living standards necessarily. It's about oppression, lack of freedom of expression, and being told what you should believe with regard to folk who have a different or no religion.

And no, I doubt the majority want to live in the west, and I don't think Miami was saying that. Just that the majority would like some, if not all the freedoms we have. That's assuming they are aware of what they are and not some devilish evil.

My mistake there, I meant the vast majority of those who live here want to do so for a better life, I didn't mean the vast majority of Iran.

But I didn't mean that's the issue at all, the issue was solely the threat to the world, which we clearly aren't

They'd love him: a high value hostage.

Can imagine the papers "NHS hero held by Hassan, whilst on holiday in Iran"

Tehran would love it.

I bet he's been held closely by a few males especially in his student days 😂

Western hostage has head chopped off whilst talking shit about football to Shia terror group

Thinking about it Andranik is a Christian iirc. Could be wrong, but I have this distant memory. Would show that all isn't lost I suppose.

Shooting down civilian airliners isn’t going to help either.

I don’t know, thought is was pretty good.

It’s better than your punctuation, that’s for sure. 😉

Even if the West isn't, that's immaterial to whether it's perceived to be. And in regards to Trump, I think it's possible to make a good objective case that he personally is (although that's a separate argument).

Yes I agree, but it fan5 who said we are a threat, not the Iranians.

I'd better tell the Foreign Office to take Somalia,  Yemen, etc off the travel advisory list then and replace it with the US 😊🇺🇸
