February 21, 201610 yr Author Aye, top 5 at the moment. Votein we've been up there for pretty much the last 2 centuries so I'm not sure how you think we can catastrophically drop into the 3rd world rankings by being out. Go on, vote out, be a devil.

February 21, 201610 yr There will be so many lies and so much spin from the "In" crowd and doubtless from other countries There will be just as many lies and spin by the "out" crowd as well Remember, it's politicians were talking about. Every single one of them is a cut who is solely in it for themselves
February 21, 201610 yr I agree there'll be much scaremongering, but as Carlos said earlier, remember the last election when nobody would admit to being a Tory. The angry mobs can shout all they want (though there's plenty of the far left in the out gang) but when you go in that booth there's nobody intimidating you. In 1975 every national daily newspaper except the Morning Star was IN. No surprise that IN won. This time it will be very different from the papers. The prevailing spirit in 1975 was "stuff the Commonwealth, we need to get on"> This left Canada even closer to the USA, and Aus and NZ to seek more connectionw with the Far East. The rest, nobody cared about. In fact the Commonwealth has proved to be a great success in all sorts of ways, and even has members with no colonial connection to GB. By contrast the EU has boasted 2 great 'successes', (the Euro, which staggers from crisis to crisis, and the Schengen Agreement, which is in tatters. The European project really began with the European Coal and Steel Community under the Treaty of Paris in 1951. Those 6 countries went on to become the founder members of the EEC, which has since grown in ways some of which were predictable and some of which were not (German reunification, and the inclusion of a range of countries previously under Communist rule). The point of the EC&SC was to bring to an end generations of wars between France and Germany going back to Napoleonic times. These usually ended with either Alsace or the Saarland being handed over. The Saar Protectorate, including Germany's third largest coalfield, was administered by France after WW2. It is now beginning to resemble the Holy Roman Empire (or should I say the German Empire)
February 21, 201610 yr Author Big up to boris Boris Johnson to campaign to leave EU http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-eu-referendum-35626621
February 21, 201610 yr If Boris Johnson ends up running Great Britain and Donald Trump The US of A it's time to pack up and move to the moon.
February 21, 201610 yr If Boris Johnson ends up running Great Britain and Donald Trump The US of A it's time to pack up and move to the moon. BoJo is a bumbling but generally unoffensive toff who using his bumblings as a smoke screen to his more right leaning policies. I find him less irritating than cameron and osborne as he doesnt try and hide how much of a posh boy he is. Trump and his followers are a genuinely scary bunch who seem to believe utter made up nonsense as fact.
February 21, 201610 yr There will be just as many lies and spin by the "out" crowd as well Remember, it's politicians were talking about. Every single one of them is a cut who is solely in it for themselves Thats my thoughts on it. both sides will come up with cherry picked 'facts' to support their arguments
February 21, 201610 yr The future is uncertain whichever way we go. But what is certain is that the European bureaucracy is ponderously slow to achieve anything, and that their accounts have not been signed off for any year this century.
February 21, 201610 yr I don't think most people comprehend how incredible it is that we've had peace in Europe for neary 80 years, and that is largely down to the formation of the European Union. It's basically unprecedented in the history of Europe. I'm not saying that we'll go to war with Germany if we vote out, but to me that's reason enough to stay in.

February 21, 201610 yr Haven't we had any wars in Europe over the last 80 years? Not between members of the EU, no.
February 21, 201610 yr Author Being in the EU is currently causing friction within mainland Europe countries.
February 21, 201610 yr if we do leave the EU, will any of the other "big boys" jack it in as well do we reckon?
