Sorry to announce that we have lost one of our posters today, following a long fight against illness. He remained a Wanderer through to the end. Most of you will have known him by sight, he was quite an imposing figure on the Burnden Terrace in the day, but not sure many really knew much about him and his life outside watching the Whites. I was proud to have known him, and will miss his cutting and incisive wit. Words below from his niece on Facebook.

It is with much sadness , that I must announce , the passing of the most loving caring uncle anyone could have . He wasn't just my uncle B , he was everyone's uncle B ,I'm sure you have all seen our selfies over the years
After 22 months of bravery , strength , and fulfilling life to the full ,
Bernard Slater passed away peacefully in the early hours ,in Bolton, a life long Wanderers supporter ⚽️
I am truly broken , Empty just isn't the word ,RIP uncle B . Funeral announcement in due course ????

Lou asked me to pass on the following Funeral details, now confirmed:

 

30th September 2016

At 1pm St Thomas of Canterbury Church Bolton BL1 4PN

Followed by committal at 2-15 east chapel Overdale crematorium.

Wanderers shirts, scarves etc. very much in order.

Good job you posted that this numpty was looking at arranging a couple of appointments in the south of England that week. ????

Although I may not be able to post like uncle B did ,

I and my lad , can remain the potty southern fans

That we are , many away fans see us here , there and everywhere

And maybe will know us on here as the Pompey fans

Jords and I did a day trip to Helsingor , in July , uncle B wasn't strong enough

So thought well ....,.,, let's do it for him and documented every footstep

Once again Thankyou , he will continue his BWFC journey through us

As it was he who made us believe , love and give us passion and direction

A man so incredible , no one else could ever fill

I was lucky he was my uncle B

Hopefully a little thing in programme at weekend

Thank you for posting a photo,  I know his face now which is kind of nice and kind of sad.

 

Hopefully the team will get 3 points Saturday as a thank you for his life long support as well as his indoctrination, sorry evangelical missionary work down south

RIP Bernard....I remember some hilarious trips in the mid - late 70s from London with Bernard and Malcolm.Cambridge away springs to mind..think it was the game when a few Whites went to the wrong ground..... a fabulous guy and a real Wanderer who will be greatly missed!

..they did and I think quite a few only realised as the teams came out and there was no one they recognised. We thought we were low on numbers even in those days!
