Fair enough I suppose. Though I struggle to understand how anyone can't be appreciative of what people went through, irrespective of whether they're a pacifist or whatever.

  • Would folk class the "no to racism" thing as a political statement ?   Shocking when two of the world's fiercest footballing rivals can't unite with their pride and right to wear a poppy.   Fifa a

FIFA is a massive global corporate organisation. They have rules about what appears on shirts in the competitions they fund. OUTRAGEOUS.

Fucking hell. People outraged by this are as bad as extreme left-wingers who wail about someone taking the piss out of a religion.

Grow up.

They weren't on their shirts.

Good point well made. So there are rules about what players are allowed to wear during a game. My point still stands. Is it really so fucking outrageous that a global corporation might have those rules?

They should all have just had full face poppy tattoos done.

Problem solved.

One of the things which pisses me off most about this is that some of the individuals at FIFA kicking this shitstorm up would possibly still be living a slave like existence in the 'Thousand Year Reich' if it wasn't for an alliance of nations who didn't surrender at the first sign of trouble. Scots and English folk were at the forefront of this alliance.

The ungrateful cunts should be reminded of this.

Where do you stand on the Ireland Shirt then bolts?

I'd stand all over it.

A global corporation can have its rules and equally those should be subject to scrutiny and common sense.

Especially given the fact that this corporation is funded by sponsors and ultimately fans via national associations.

Especially when many senior people within it have been shown to have creamed off millions for their own gain.

Especially when its own rules and moral compass allow it to give tournaments to Russia and the middle east, whose treatment off labourers has led to hundreds of deaths. That's all OK but if you want to show a tiny bit of respect on a one off basis to people who paid the ultimate price to ward off tyranny then the corporation will come down on you harshly. Just a set of bullies.

Corrupt, outdated corporations eventually get found out and eventually disappear. Fifa need to sort themselves out before they become football history.

Agree with most of that. But being specific to this case - there are rules about what players are allowed to wear during a game. England and Scotland broke those rules, and therefore will probably get a fine. End of story.

Indeed whether or not it is a fucking stupid rule isn't the question at this point. It's a rule and England and Scotland broke it so have to pay the fine.

The amount will be pitance to the FA but it keeps fifa happy that the rule breakers have been punished.

The fact is there are rules. We decided to break them deciding any punishment is worth bearing.

To be controversial if we played Argentina and they wore a symbol remberring people who died in wars including Falklands how would people react ? We have no doubt all seen picture of them with Malvinas flag which I find wrong.

I think for once FA have made right call on this one, let's see what punishment we get.

Poppycock.

The poppy is not a symbol of the principles of the wars we've had it's a symbol to say we remember those who fell are Fifa going to demand we take down sir bobbies statue

Traf beat me to it (and not for the first time).

I know and have known a lot of top Irish folk. I have also come across some of the most visceral England haters from that same country (especially in Melbourne curiously).

For this latter reason, I hope FIFA throw the fucking book at them for celebrating the massive error they made when rising up in order to stay under the papal jackboot burning peat rather than advance dramatically as part of the British Empire.

Let's see who that sets off. Probably the other one I have on ignore  :D

On a more serious note, the Irish act was absolutely political so should be punished. The poppy is not a political symbol. As onlyoneawalker says above, it is a symbol of remembrance for those who fell - IMO those who fell of all nationalities.
