FFS. This isn't Behind The Stands. Most folk come on here to read bullshit rumours and conjecture, with the odd bit of accurate stuff thrown in. It's boring as fuck reading your personal squabbles.

We've just won promotion using a gaggle of players nobody else wanted, littered with injury plagued loanees and players that were cast as cart horses, one trick ponies and generally weak as piss.

May be unrealistic, but I'm looking for strikers on the edge of Premier teams squads to come on loan not solid L1 or borderline Champ players like Nombe.

Somebody like Kenny (if not him) who runs into channels and gives us a different option and knows where the back of the net is.

We've got our big target man in Dalby.

We are also allowed 4 overseas players next year.  Not guaranteed success e.g. Shoen but Fergal obviously has links in Europe.

I have sympathy with Taylor over the goal he gave away v Port Vale, he was injured.

The key part is ‘Taylor never got one chance to redeem himself’ so surely ask why ? The manager seems the players nearly everyday, we get 90 minutes a week. If in that time all the others did enough in the managers to get a second but he did nt implies it is something he is or is nt doing in training.

I do get that, if a player isn't getting a chance there's normally a reason.  If we're being kind to him, we'd say its because he had no chance of getting in ahead of either GJ or Conway.  And when the need arose as at Wembley, SS was happy to use Tutu there, even Toal can move over in an emergency.  And SS doesn't put many defenders on the bench anyway.

But whether he's dropped because he's beaten up half the youth team or because he's just not very good, it remains that the other players that were out of favour (even Randall, Apter and TSL) had a decent run of chances to show what they could do.  Its a bit unfair to judge on those cup games which all seemed to be a comedy of errors, and anyway he played well v Huddersfield in the FA Cup as well as scoring.

There isn't a cat in hell's chance he plays 1 minute for us next season now that we've gone up and there's no Pizza Cup, but he won't be alone in that, as we've already seen with the released players.

We want to aim higher than Sidibeh

Maybe but with that pace and can score as well I’m not sure what higher you’re looking at?

the lads played mainly dog and duck. if we aim that low we may as well give up.

Lads of the sort of profile of Will Lankshear (Spurs) who was on loan at Oxford and did pretty well, 11 goals, 4 assists from 34 starts in a struggling side, would be more the sort I'd imagine we might be looking at.

With the best will in the world, lads like Nombe and Sidibeh have their ceiling in L1 and we already have enough of those on our books.

Fergal's links in Europe, especially obvs Belgium, may well already be being utilised

I'd never heard of Sidibeh till he scored on Sunday.

Being linked again with 22 year old Luca Stephanson [Right back]  Who has spent the last 12 months at Dundee Utd

Linked with him in January. Celtic and Rangers also mentioned. Parent club is Liverpool so dont know if he is local or not

From County Durham.
Was at Sunderland's Academy before Liverpool paid £500k for him as a 15yr old.

Played 30-odd games for Barrow and 60-odd in Scotland

Scale of the challenge exemplified by a look at a list of all those released by Championship clubs, couldn't honestly see one in there that would jump out as a possible, even from the top 4 or 5 sides.

Interesting though from Iles article that Fergal and SS were already well on with a Plan A and Plan B of targets, so no doubt already pretty clear on who they're after, notwithstanding Prem clubs only just putting out their retained lists

It's a bit trite, but getting promoted means all of those were successes in the end.

We needed a steady presence in goal and Bonham provided that, and pulled off great saves in the playoffs. We wouldn't have even made the playoffs if Cissoko hadn't scored against Huddersfield.

I wouldn't be desperate to see any of them here and starting next season, but they all contributed.

Playing devil's advocate here for discussions sake!

But we can't say a player is a success because they scored 1 or 2 goals can we?   That makes Forss a success too.

If you sign for a season and have 2 great moments in 46 games, does that negate the other 40 odd?

This is NOT a dig at Cissoko who we've grown to love, but when we sign a player this summer we aren't thinking its a good signing if we have to wait till April for him to "contribute".

A success is based on their contribution over the season, if Cissoko contributed to winning a few points he presumably also contributed to us losing some games otherwise why was he hauled off at Burton (0-3) etc etc?  The argument might be that if we'd signed a better player we would have been challenging for top 2 instead of getting 28 points less than Lincoln.

Would we sign Bonham/Cissoko/AN Other with the benefit of hindsight if we could take all their good and poor performances again?

Yep just read up on him, fits into the type of signing SS/Harkin are starting to try and bring in ie young but already established at a decent level would instantly fit in and plenty re-sale value in the future

Forss' goals to minutes played is up with the best we had last season 😉 :D

A goal every 220 minutes.
Kenny was best at 162 minutes/goal followed by Rodrigues at 194 and Dalby at 198

Taylor is not what we need and we need to get rid.

CBT is to injury prone. the Championship is hard enough without lads in the medical room getting better each game.

Kenny wants celtic move on

ACD would like to play for Brighton, he doesn't mean he will.

Celtic had a poor season by their standards (OK, I know they did the double 😀) and they will see Kenny as a backward step.

FWIW if we were in L1 I'd say he'd be great signing for us, now we're in the championship I'd hope for something better given that Dalby is going nowhere, we really do need upgrades to hope to compete.

But SS knows that, happy to leave it upto him.

I've never heard of most of our signings in the last couple of years.

I'm not expecting us to sign anyone I've heard of this summer either, unless they've already been here on loan.

Sidibe's only been at Stockport 4 months and scored 9 goals already, including two good goals in 2 Wembley appearances, plus the disallowed one.

And if we're making signings for August, would we take another Dalby or Kenny situation where they sign and then get injured?  If Kenny's injury had happened in Feb/March he'd have probably missed the rest of the season and be in the flop category, and Dalby did little of note pre-Christmas and was getting slated as recently as Doncaster away on Boxing Day.

As someone said on here, your best ability is your availability.

He’s also played for Warrington Rylands. He is not what we need for championship football.

I didn't say he is.  It was more a mention that if we haven't heard of someone (eg Gale, ACD, Burstow, Tutu, Kenny, Simons) before we're linked with them, it is no reflection on their ability.

And if we're ruling out players because they've played in the Northern Premier League previously it explains why the likes of Peterboro, Lincoln and Stockport find players at bargain prices and we pay out a million or so for lesser players.

Brandon Thomas-Asante ex Salford who looked decent for a season, went to Coventry via West Brom and wil play in the premier league next season

Played at Ebbsfleet prior to Salford.

It does happen.

Celtic always have this tricky situation when weighing up whether someone's first team ready or not. 20-odd of their league games are against defences no better than Kenny was carving through before his injury. The other league games and European ties though are a step up, to roughly top end Champ level in the league and beyond that in the UCL

I'm a bit surprised by the negativity towards him up there, but if it created a situation where he was offered back to us I'd have him, I think he can do OK in the Championship
