Right, there's been plenty of discussion on here about cuts to public spending etc.

Not wanting to expand into all that, but this is now a massive concern.

 

As much as labour appear unelectable, if the Tories don't start to act quickly I can see this growing into a potential election loser for them, or at least a continued low majority.

 

Should immediate money be found (from overseas aid maybe) or leave it as it is?

No its definitely happening. It's just whether there's beds to move people into once they've been triaged.

Though there has been talk of closing some a and e Dept's and focusing on fewer bigger ones.

It's down to the CCG how money is spent. It's not like Jeremy Hunt saw our plight and bunged us a few extra quid :-)

Now the ni increase has been scrapped, care funding will come under scrutiny again.

They're after shutting the walk in centre in Bury and sending folk to already stretched GPS and A&E

There is talk of all A&E's having a GP at the from door 24/7 but they've not explained where they will get these GP's from as there is a national shortage.

GPS are already doing some triage work at Bolton a and e. Not sure if it is every day or was a trial.

 

I'm surprised the drop in centre was underused as whenever I went it there were a few waiting. Not exactly an in depth study but surprised nonetheless.

So was the one in Little Hulton. They all rocked up at Townleys instead.

The vast majority of the ones who used it lived local and it was easier than going to their GP

 

Then you had the usual time wasters

 

The folk who desparately needed to see a doc to get a free prescription rather than buying some fcuking paracetamol

 

The same folk who moan the NHS is underfunded

Talk up here of them closing Preston & Chorley hospitals and replacing them with a brand new facility at the end of the M65 (Bamber Bridge)

 

I'm all for it, Preston hospital is a complete shit hole now. Even if it wasn't a bigger brand new facility has to be better for us locals surely?

 

The site is also going to have a big Ikea, retail park, offices etc - talk of it generating 4,500 jobs, a big thumbs up from me

 

Anyroad the usual nay Sayers are out moaning about the traffic implications etc etc. The planning department are inundated with objections

It's exactly this. You can make an A&E as big as you want but if there's no beds to move patients to then it's completely pointless. Bolton Royal is horrendously short of beds. Make the A&E bigger and all you will do is compound the problem

Makes sense that Birch, Preston hospital is a right mishmash of buildings and Chorley only has A&E open 12 hours a day.

An excellent addition. I sometimes think that people go to A&E as the first point of call because they are hyper vigilant for things like meningitis for example - they skip the Dr part so that they can err on the side of caution. This system should hopefully take a lot of pressure off. No doubt there will be a few unforseen issues - but hopefully nothing that can't be ironed out.

They've shut down a GP centre (which had a walk-in thing as part of it) in our borough (the poorer part) & told the 4,000 people registered with that centre to register elsewhere. Unfortunately for them, most other GP practices are full so they have to go to A&E instead. That won't last long though as the plans indicate that the nearby A&E will be closing...

How does your expert witness see NHS funding; OK or inadequate?

I wholly take your point re time wasters but would everything be OK without them?

Funding is adequate but people's expectations are too high

 

We have a good service that is adequate for the majority, but there isn't a bottomless pit of money

 

Unfortunately politicians feel the need to make all sorts of promises that can't be kept

 

The system can't do everything we want it to and I think most people accept that

Take your point re not bottomless pit on cash, the only thing I'd say is, personally I'd like a service that is excellent for the majority and adequate for everyone. Might be difficult to achieve but at least aim for it. If that meant taking some from overseas aid, or even a couple of quid on ni contributions then so be it.

It depends on if you think we get nowt back from overseas aid, be it hard cash or goodwill
