The Nhs Thread

Right, there's been plenty of discussion on here about cuts to public spending etc.

Not wanting to expand into all that, but this is now a massive concern.

As much as labour appear unelectable, if the Tories don't start to act quickly I can see this growing into a potential election loser for them, or at least a continued low majority.

Should immediate money be found (from overseas aid maybe) or leave it as it is?

Interested in everyone's views.

I was on the Bolton Hospital induction today. I learned a couple of interesting things I thought I'd share on here. Firstly our A&E department was designed to cater for around 65,000 patients

  • Much as I resent paying for parking at hospitals, it is right as otherwise the cost would come out of funds needed for care.

  • I agree that the Tories aren't getting across their message very well     And it might be good to repatriate some foreign aid

Sorry, on ni

The govt were after the tax evading self employed to play their part and then gave in

As it is, they'll be paying less pretty soon

Overseas aid is fine if it is put to proper use: far too much waste though and I'm not sure of how much return benefits there are. £200m for east Africa, just a few years since the last famine. The relief effort being stolen or prevented from getting where needed by twats with guns. Comes a point where we've got to say no more unless you sort out your governance etc. That money could be spent better at home (not just NHS)

12 billion you say- ten percent of that would help the NHS I'm sure.

Take your point about tax evasion, that also applies to huge corporates too.

Pensions are ultimately just what folk have "invested" in the system and bound to be a bigger spend given the numbers- and are still subject to income tax where applicable.

More tax on fags?

No, make folk pay for prescriptions

I repeat, 90 percent end up being free

By rights, about 40% should be

Let everybody pay, those with significant on going need can get a season ticket

The malingerers, ne er do wells and general abusers can die

Maybe the NHS not sending 2 letters from the same department to one person in one day could be looked at, too

Precscriptions free north of the border for everyone subsidised by Westminster. Whilst I benefit it needs looking at somewhere surely

Ran the sons godmother to Rochdale hospital for her wisdom teeth out on the 9th.

Dropped her off at 8am as requested.

She messages me at 9:15 saying they've just informed her they had to rearrange her appointment and they'd sent a letter out.

The nurse said they'd try and see if they can fit her in that say as she was there.

11:15 I get a message they can't fit her in and could I pick her up.

In the car on the way home she tells me that the nurse had done some digging and that her cancellation letter was written on the 7th so probably wouldn't have gone in the post til the 8th the day before her appointment.

As usual the quality medical staff at the NHS is let down by he office bods

Probably comes from the foreign aid budget

We need to do our bit for troubled nations

Well we will soon have £350m a week more to spend on new office staff post brexit

That's ridiculous. Who the feck prescribes paracetamol when the chemist will collect c£7 for giving a packet that cost about 30p wholesale. Got to be a scam somewhere that surely

Doctors all over the UK prescribe paracetamol

The problem here isn't chemists

Because scrotes get free prescriptions, why would they waste 10 bob on tablets for themselves or their kids

Then we move on to antibiotics

Often prescribed before the body has had chance to do its stuff

Gonna be a fun day when they stop working due to the evolved bacteria

Long time friend is a pharmacist and her pet hates are unclaimed prescriptions (which have to be disposed of) and prescriptions for paracetamol/ibuprofen

In fairness it's your pharmacist mate making money out of throwing them in the bin

Why don't they just charge cost for anything not claimed or pence for paracetamol rather than pounds

They have to be disposed of, under current rules. She's part of a campaign to change the rules.

If you go in with a prescription for anything that costs less than the charge usually a pharmacy will sell you the item rather than charge the prescription price.

However if folk get free prescriptions and insist on getting it on script there's nowt that currently be done.

Frank's reet

There are some dodgy ones, like everywhere else, but individual pharmacists will generally do their best for their customers

Its a bone of contention for you this isn't it? :)

Have to take your word about figures, though its a difficult one for me, as I now get free prescriptions being epileptic.

Without that, I doubt I could have afforded all the shit they've thrown at me over recent years.

Take your point about scrotes and scroungers though.

Not really, the Scots decide how to spend the money we spunk on them.

See, that pisses me off. Nothing against you tmgj, but why should you get free prescriptions? There are all sorts of conditions that are life threatening which require regular medication, why not just make those free?

I have a pre-payment card which is just over 12 quid a month for as many scripts that I need which is usually 3-4 a month, not bad at all that.

My GP's surgery has a console at the reception desk where you input your date of Birth and it alerts the practice that you have arrived. Before you input anything you first have to tell it what language you'd like the text to be; English, Polish or Slovakian. I must attend at different times to all these Poles and Slovaks as I've yet to see anyone from Eastern Europe. Not that I attend that often; usually when they remind me I'm due a flu jab, which was today's visit.

When you request Polish or Slovakian you're soon called into a special consultation room, where you're summarily executed and parcelled up for dispatch by Yodel to the motherland - that's why you never see any.

You're a bit late for this winter.

Sorry I didn't realise that spunking money over the Scots was endorsed on here my mistake

It most certainly isn't!

But, once we've given it to them, then they can spend/waste it how they want.

Noted.

As I've said I benefit from this ridiculous rule but would never ever take a prescription for paracetamol and have £7 taken from the public purse.

if jimmy krankie does get her referendum despite mass protestations saying otherwise then I think they may well exit the union which would rid us of that burden saw stats the other day saying each person living in Scotland is subsidised by uk govt by c1700 each per year. Multiply by 5million and you've got some outflow there

Isn't the rest of England subsidised by the South East (effectively London)?

With that thinking the South East should go it alone and save themselves a fortune as well

The break up of the UK would be bad news effecting us all further, hopefully enough people realise this to stop it happening

100% agree unfortunately I fear it will break up if they allow the referendum to take place at some point in the future
