Another classic game from the memory bank, Everton at home in the second leg of the League Cup semi final.
If memory serves well, we queued up on a freezing cold Sunday morning for tickets and the queue was huge, took us hours to get tickets, and for the only time in my life we had tickets for the south terrace of the Manchester Road Paddock.
If folk thought Newcastle was a big crowd then this was something entirely different, you couldn't bleeding move in Burnden Park that night, it was crammed to the rafters.
Around 51,000 squeezed into Burnden, Everton were given the home section of the Embankment, which now was accustomed to having segregation barriers down the middle.
My view from the South side of the Manny Road terrace was piss poor, I was virtually nestled against the barrier to the Lever End.
I can't recall too much of the match to be honest, but remember Duncan MacKenzie's penalty miss and a problem with the floodlights on the Embankment.
The stick out memory for me personally of the night was at the end and a small party of Evertonians in the Manchester Road Wing stand celebrating and singing "Que Sera Sera"
Bastards robbed us of our Wembley dream when a cup final meant something to the ordinary fan. Never liked them since that day and never eaten an Everton toffee since.
