Interesting conundrum. What would you do?

After reading it I reckon the hotel staff were out of order. There were no other rooms available so they had to share- staff must have known it. Moreover, do they have the right to ask for the child's I'd? An adult yes.

ive stayed in the Lakes  with  both my teenage daughters in a room

I don't trust the DailyFail to tell me the date accurately or honestly, let alone publish a story like this, but on the assumption all is as stated, I'd have gone Garrity & told the staff & the police to fuck off. Neither have the right to do what they did without some genuine proof/reason. If they'd have responded in a way that I wasn't happy with, my next move would be legal, as they don't have a leg to stand on. 

My wifes been mistaken for my daughter a few times at hotels which is amusing, I would be far less amused if they mistook my daughter for my girlfriend

See the problem is that if a REAL nonce had taken a girl to a hotel, and the staff didn't do anything... people would be all up in arms because the hotel could have stopped him in his tracks.

 

It really is "damned if you do, damned if you don't". I don't think the hotel were wrong in asking a couple of questions, but I do think they took it too far by calling the police unless they had reasonable doubt.

That's where I am. Daily Mail today. But if Travelodge do nothing and it comes to light they were wrong then a kid gets touched up and it's over every single news network and newspapers. Plus Travelodge have a bigger problem than they have now. I reckon most would think the worst if in the same situation. Getting the police involved and escalating it so quick is where the problem lies.

Surely a real fiddler would have gone in on their own, checked in, picked up the key/card & taken the kid up later. What deviant looking to avoid being caught would breeze in with their prey on their arm, & then leave them in the reception area under scrutiny, whilst they park up their child catcher chariot??

 

I'm kin crap at spotting family resemblances, but even I can see the facial father / daughter similarities in the pictures.

 

Then they compound their stupidity & continue being fucktards after seeing the Facebook & phone pics, - What the frickin frick!

Given they had a lack of rooms so they had to share, they should have understood.

I know we have to be vigilant, but its more likely to have harmed the poor lass. Without any evidence they went too far IMO.

There's next to fcuk all chance that the hotel staff knew all other rooms were booked when that booking was taken

I sort of had it once. Boro away. The game when Beckford missed the penalty and we lost, it was Karanka's first home game as a manager. Went to that Doctor Summat's pub pre-match with one of my dowters. Ordered a pint of Guinness and a pint of cider. "Guess the cider's for your other half (snigger, snigger, raised eyebrows, whispers, pointing at her) is it a pint or a half, and has she got id? (more sniggers, whispers and pointing)". Shouted over to her to come to the bar and tell them what she wanted and show them her id. Had a bit of a barney with them about their attitude. As the boozer filled up with Boro fans and a DJ started playing tunes the old hag who I presume was the landlady came over (all brave with the Boro fans in there by now) and starts having a go at me saying I'm out of order talking to the staff like I did. Had a barney with her so long story short we fucked off and went to the ground as it was a mixed pub with a decent atmosphere and I didn't want it to kick off. Really pissed me off. Their attitude stank and once confronted about it couldn't wait to then escalate it once the place was rammed - when we first went in the place was empty - I should have gone to the Daily Mail with my compo face

Rooms point I agree with as the bookings were made well in advance & by a call centre, the rest, leading to the plod being called cannot be ignored by the wise...

Tricky one. Without being there and seeing how each individual behaved it's impossible to judge. Doesn't sound like the police did anything wrong.

 

I just wonder how this made it into the national press really. If something like this happened to you, would you get a newspaper involved? 

If I was to spend a night in a hotel with my daughter when she was 13 I'd be happy that someone was looking after HER wellbeing rather than turning a blind eye to any potential for wrongdoing.

Agreed. However traumatised (and maybe deserving of compensation) his daughter was, a story about it in a national newspaper will surely make things better for her.

I have a daughter the same age.If it had been me i'd be fooking fumin' - just like the dad in the Mail story.

I like to think i'd have used some common sense though + taken her i.d with me.

This is a guy with his daughter FFS. are we really at a point where we have to ask this kind of shit? Accusations true or not can stick. How do i prove my niece is my niece next time i go the football? get some common fucking sense. 

It's a shame there wasn't the same amount of caution applied in Rotherham and Rochdale.
