They'd vote to remain a part of the UK (or at least against Irish unification), probably by a fairly comfortable margin.

But if it was for a united Ireland, then surely you'd have to let the Irish vote too. Then it might not be so clear cut.

The Republic of Ireland would overhwelmingly vote for reunification and would swing any joint referendum in that direction.

That can't happen in practice, though, because it wouldn't resolve anything - there would still be a majority vote in Northern Ireland in favour of remaining a part of the UK and that majority is the reason the status quo exists.

The only possibility of Irish reunification happening would be if Northern Ireland itself votes for it.

Sell it to Ireland for £100billion.

I couldn’t give a fuck about them or those amateur hackers in Glasgow either.

It’s gay and holding us back.

Get rid, and I’ll be back on board the Brexit train.

I think it would be two votes. Firstly NI only to establish if the majority want the chance of a united Ireland referendum. Then, if the initial vote is affirmative, a full Ireland vote. It would be quite a difficult constitutional change to say the least. However, brexit has moved it into the realms of possibility.

If the Scots can have a chance at fucking off, why not the Ulster’s?

Referendum would need to be joint but in both jurisdictions

cant “ give it back “ as Northern Ireland was never part of the current state of the Republic of Ireland .

Republicans don’t recognise either state and only recognise the “Irish Republic “ declared at the rising and which was voted for in their manifesto in the election in 1918 , and subsequently ignored , hence SinnFein not attending parliament but having seats on both parliaments on the island .

they are making noises now about a new Ireland, free from the historical chains , but, as with everything, and as what caused the initial rejection of that 1918 result, which then led to the war of independence and then the civil war giving rise to the troubles all the way to the GFA ,there will always be some who will not accept a united independent Ireland , unless, it’s united under the crown and brought back into the UK and there will always be those who won’t accept any British involvement in any part of Ireland .

remainers and leavers as it were …

Id like to keep the 6 counties of ulster as part of the uk

Sinn Fein biggest single party , due to unionism vote split between different parties more than the republican vote is split essentially.
if it was a straight vote that affected Northern Ireland’s status in the union, party differences wouldn’t matter and unionist vote would be the majority , though some more moderate people from that tradition are looking towards a more modern inclusive united Ireland,  which makes sense, as it will come one day , but there’ll need to be another generation of groundwork and polls on that before it’s even considered I’d say.

Can’t help with Shergar or lord lucan, however any solution to imports to Ireland, technological or otherwise will always be stone walled by the EU.

I’m not so sure they would, at least not from an economical point of view. Not as if NI would bring much to the table, and unless the EU increased Ireland’s slice of the pie then it means they’d have to spread their existing cash much more thinly.

The economic case for reunification is poor but I think the dominant factor in a referendum would be emotive rather than economic.

The most recent polls have about two thirds of the electorate as voting in favour of it and about one fifth against.

I’m sure the economic factor would very quickly come in to it if push came to shove though, particularly when considering their recent history on that front.

emotions can decide referendums without the potential consequences being considered.

Possibly, but I think if people view in it in terms of national identity, and the return of their country's land, any economic argument becomes null and void.

There'd have to be a huge swing in sentiment for them to vote against it.

Everybody knows it's utter shit

They also know that anybody from England, who professes to having either Rangers or Celtic as a "second team" is just basically an attention seeker

It’s the way none of them seem able to just admit it’s basic sectarianism.

”I’m here for the football”

are. You. Fuck.
