if I’ve misunderstood the point I felt was made that other more closely located countries to the uk have done this and used this money to improve infrastructure I can only apologize.

Ah. No sorry, I probably didn't make it clear.

The point was that some European nationalised railways can subsidise their fares in part due to profits made by part owning our railways.

More than one law potentially been broken though. Whether the government needed to be notified seems to be one, but non notification of the unions is another, and seems to be the crux of the argument now.

Another maritime lawyer that was interviewed also explained that many laws of the land may not apply anyhow, as seafarers are governed by collective rules agreed by dozens of countries some time ago, and these are separate from any one country's rules.

She went on to explain just how complex the situation was to determine whether or not P&O has broken any laws.

Additionally, the EU doesn't have any laws to prevent this from happening elsewhere, just that some nations have gone further and bolted on additional protections.

Ireland suffered a similar incident apparently a few years ago, and perhaps this led them to strengthen their own laws. We are now doing likewise. 

It seems that they now have determined which laws have been broken, and the P&O boss acknowledged it.

If these companies hadn't been nationalised, your pension pot would just be invested elsewhere.

Locals can buy a season ticket, for a month or longer. Proof by means of Czech identity (all Czechs have identity cards, like the most of Europe) Tourists pay by means of short trip, daily or 3 day trips. It varies by region. 

I’ve bought a 30 day transport ticket as a tourist (cheaper than the norm) but still twice the price Czechs pay. This is not unusual in Europe. Germany have a similar scheme.

Have to admit our train fares are a disgrace, I wouldn’t be against renationalising the trains improving services and subsidising fares to get folk off the road.
