Ive said many times before, my inlaws are salt of the earth. Not a bigoted bone in their body. But they voted leave in some kind of weird gut reaction to the amount of Polish folk that had moved on to their street. 

In reality they shouldn't be anywhere near making a decision so important with so little proper information to make it on. Not their fault like.

We vote in representives, direct referendums are not the same as democracically elected governments for very important reasons.

Yep.  MiL was the same.  Too many foreigners at the doctors whenever she went.  Voting Brexit would send them all home meaning it'd be easier for her to get an appointment...

Agreed. If you are the democratic leader you must exhibit proper leadership not hide behind a facebook generated referendum. If the majority of the voting public are unhappy with your decision making then they will eventually demonstrate this at the ballot box. Did he hold a referendum when he started making overtones to Nato in full knowledge of what the brutes next door are capable of?

Most major national decisions are too complex for us who are not 100% in the loop and that is why we send our representatives to Parliament.

My MiL too... I just reminded her that most of the foreigners at the hospital were the doctors and nurses!
