Surely we’ve all learnt referendums are a no no. Not sure anyone enjoyed the last one and I include the winners when you think they’ve had to listen to folk saying cancel it or a re vote etc. David Cameron is an Uber tit for ever giving a vote out and not factoring in the fact he could lose it.

You need to stop looking through your red specs, they’ve done plenty of good things and some unacceptable things, all governments can’t get everything right and the corruption is unforgivable, however I think enough folk will take a balanced view come the next election and I make them slight favourites.

I can’t vote for a corrupt government even if I thought they were running things well, which they aren’t. They are not trustworthy and it starts at the top. It’s as simple as that. I’ve voted Tory in GEs more than labour so I’m not the person you think I am.

It's not though, it will be forgiven, as the Conservatives will get back in, and probably still have a 25/30 seat majority.

I think if Labour got rid of Starmer and put Nandy in, they'd have a better chance, but they're still miles behind in reality

No one is blubbering. Pointing out endemic failures is hardly crying ones eyes out.

That's as good as liking Trump because he upset Matt Damon or someone.

It's always been, and going to be, an uphill struggle for any centre left party to get into power. Look at voting history

The way the system works, boundaries, resurgence of nationalism in Scotland.

I'd say this is more of a systematic flaw rather than that the Conservatives are any good.

I thought Nandy might have been better fit for Labour before starmer however my view is that starmer probably needs to do the groundwork first and get the party  in a better shape.

 

Comparing our energy sector to that of France has the one big issue- that of public or private ownership. 

A whole separate debate on the merits of each, however if Macron has kept a lid on the price rise, then are the state owned companies losing money?

They pay the same prices on the market for gas; that has rocketed, so how long can it sustain lower increases in end user prices?

For all the flaws that may exist in our set up, the levy and push towards renewables now stands us in good stead.

👍correct, it makes me laugh when I see those comments on here.

I even get people voting for the tories as majority do. 

I scratch my head at the coming out and defending them though like they are really good and we are all missing something. 

They are so detestable from top to bottom, i can’t think of a government I have disliked as much. Blair and his crew give em a run for their money.

Ive no doubt they’ll win the next election mind.

It is, as you say very difficult to compare the UK and French energy sectors - not just the whole state/private ownership, but also the fact that France generates over 70% of it's electricity from Nuclear, we're at under 20% I think I read the other day......we do though generate about 50% of our leccy by burning gas (which for some reason people don't know that's what we have to do). Renewables is still only around 30%....so it's getting there, but still decades away from being where we need it to be

We ought to be investing more in Nuclear, but of course that won't reap dividends for the best part of 20 years. Whilst we wait for that to come on line, maybe we look at fracking and burning off the last of the fossil fuels that we know we're sat on.

As you said, that's a whole other debate, but in my opinion, selling all your publically owned national infrastructure, seems like madness to me.

Scottish Power (Spanish Owned)

 

So not only have we sold them off, they're sold off to Johnny Foreigner, in the main, which is a bit shit
