Are you having lens replacement for cataracts ? I went to Opticans told me could do with it doing , referred me, assessment after 1 weeek, first eye done week after, second one I think 10 days later.

Had to go back about a month ago to have one of them cleaned by a laser.

Yep, referred by my optician, bloke at the hospital tells me my lenses are cloudy "and then some"

If I lived 20 miles down the road in Cambs it would be done in 3 weeks time, because my GP is in Lincs it's 16 weeks because all of the funding has been used up

Get him lined up to take your bins out next week. He quite literally has fuck all else to do apparently.

He'll refuse as I haven't washed the baked bean tins out

That is pretty shit. Do you have varifocals at moment ? If so I would consider asking how much if you pay the extra for varifocal lenses. I did not and still need glasses for close up stuff.

The operation is a doddle, the idea of them slicing open your eye ball, removing a lens and replacing whilst you are awake it is not as bad as it sounds 😂😂

I've worn varifocals for a good few years but also have an extra set of "readers" these days.

My eyes have been clouding up for a few years but it's only just beginning to affect me... I put it down to UV damage owing to my mainly outdoor life style.

Nhs is still a big mess around here, A&E is in either Peterborough, Lincoln or Leicester... not much chance given crap ambulance response times.

The actual op intrigues me... a bit like going to the dentist but actually seeing what they're up to 🙂

On the NHS they correct the long sighted element so you will still need readers. You can pay for critical lenses so you won’t need any glasses at all, but not sure if you can upgrade. But looking back wish I had asked, but as I found my eye ball is not round enough ! Still need some help with distance at night.

I was worried before the Op but my missus ex MIL had it done the week before and told me it was a doddle and it was , weird but a doddle.

I was told the upgrade is not available on the NHS and like you I have an astigmatism eye.

Believe it or not I still pass the medical for a Light Aircraft but it's the glare that gets me so I have personally opted only to fly with other pilots.

Just want to get the fkkr done now.

Good to know, I was pissed off that I never asked.
Mentioned my missus ex MIL had it done, she went private and paid for the varifocal but they put the wrong ones in !

I asked the bloke how many he did per day, he told me 14... so I can see how they can fuck it up!

If he came out with 100 quid a lens that's a bloody god screw

You fail to acknowledge who came up with the tactic.

Yeah they were churning them out when I was there. There were 6 people in the prep room and as one left another came in. They are putting drops in your eye to increase size of pupil so they see easily into the eye and numbing eye at same time.

Seems that Starmer's government is about to be torched from within.

Listened to a staunch Labour supporter and pundit really launching into Lucy Powell.

I was quite surprised at the level of bile he showed.

Will Starmer wait until he's forced out by cabinet resignations, go before or go for an election (or threaten to if they don't behave)?

No way is he seeing out his term.

From yesterday and one of our own

When you lose the backing of the Unions, you're history

Kinell, he's underfunding public services according to her.

To borrow a phrase from elsewhere, is she fucking thick?

I'll say one thing for him- he at least realises we have to try to bring debt down (at least I think he does), but he can't find a way of keeping his lot on side to achieve it.

If he is somehow replaced by an even more socialist type, then it's definitely cap in hand to the IMF time.

further support.....not for Starmer obviously 😉

Can someone clarify something please:

Unions are bad and hold the country back so ought to be ignored or treated disdainfully.

Starmer does so and folk are saying he’s history and are rather happy.

so is Starmer good for not bowing to the unions then?

explain it lads

Ask the local lady, she's in a better position to explain.

Ask about the Horwich HOMOS as well 😉

Nowt wrong with Unions, traditionally for ordinary folk it's their only way of standing up to oppressive and accumalative bosses.

Started early in the Industrial Revolution, both our parents fought in WW2 and came back home wanting a fairer society and were staunch Labour, so in a way your question is perfect on the eve of Remembrance Sunday.

I remember  enjoying reading about how Ted Heath negotiated with Jack Jones of the TGWU... both were on opposite sides but first met in the Spanish Civil War... they were allies then; sorted it over beer and sandwiches in Downing Street.

Then came Thatcher...

Workers need Unions more than ever these days

Spot on

We’d all have been working today if not for unions. Those lefty numpties making the world a better place.

I give £15.99 to mine each month. In past few years they’ve fought for a pay rise & campaigned against workload & violence in schools.

We’re on the cusp of getting the 1.5 extra hours non contact teaching time per week. Something the SNP promised a decade ago. Will make the job much more manageable if achieved.

Not perfect,  & I’ve always wanted the fight to be for better conditions over pay, but we’d all be fucked without them.

Hang on mate.....why didn't the all screaming/dancing/singing SNP follow up on their promises from a decade ago 🤔

I'll now expect a War and Peace style reply 😘

PS - Am with Humza Yousaf and Chris Stephens tomorrow for the Remembrance service in Nitshill, will ask them instead, might be a shorter explanation 😉
