If you asked people round here about immigration affecting us here the answer would be no, because we live in a ‘nice’ suburb of Leeds and other than people coming to work at the airport and in Care Homes there is little or no impact. You are right the wording is key, the fact it still comes out near the top at a National level is also ignored in the headline. Any national Government needs to understand that. At a local level in some areas like mine simply not an issue as @gonzo may have mentioned in his area it is .

If I didn't work in Blackpool and see the effects, I'd be thinking what are these obsessed gammon worried about.

But I do, and see it with my own peepers. I'm watching it grow and grow...

I'm struck by how readily folk will open up about it now- and that's changed significantly within a few years, maybe more so since the last election.

I also said it readily came up in general conversation, rather than any specific chat.

It just tells me that some people will vote for anybody regardless of their actual experience or ability. And that Reform will let absolutely anybody represent them providing they tow the party line.

Also perhaps changing attitudes amongst some younger people.

The voters themselves will also be aware of those weaknesses.

Perhaps they see the alternatives being even weaker, less trustworthy, and ineffective?

A reflection of the large scale disappointment with the usual parties.

Belittling folk for expressing their  democratic will, and not going the party you would choose, is hardly going to alter those views is it?

It's up to those traditional parties to pull their fingers out, realise what so many actually want, and start to acknowledge it, and start to represent them.

If they don't someone else will.

Even if it is just a protest vote initially, if there is no change, then the alternative will become more mainstream.

I don't think the voters really care in local elections. And I do think it's a protest vote. 

It might be a protest vote that turns into a genuine run on Parliament - but if their conference and the way they're currently managing the councils they've won is anything to go by - they'll make this current lot look like a fantasy dreamworld!

It's really hard for people to understand who don't suffer stuff like this to the same level where it's like a proper diagnosed condition.

Bit like folk thinking migraines are just day headaches or anxiety/panic attacks are just feeling a bit wooshy after a coffee.

Although it's ace issues are now diagnosed and it's much more socially acceptable to seek help, it's opened up the market, for want of a better expression, to folk who think they've got clinical depression when their dogs just died or Bolton have lost.

There's levels.

I'm glad you seem at peace with stuff anyway pal.
