Obviously it’s all talk for now. But if it’s an approach they adopt, then it could go some way to keeping Reform at bay. We could do without their disastrous policies.

the thing about stopping the boats, in a very simplistic way, is that it's france that needs to stop them, and if they can't or don't want to, then they will come over

france are facing all these issues, as are most countries in europe

they need to be stopped along the way at some point, but if we're final destination, they will end up here

either stop at source, or, stop in the first european country they get to, that's basically any country with a medditerran or black sea border

but again, if they don't want them all, they'll wave them through

I genuinely can’t see those conditions being enough to deter people & force them to leave before they’re deported (if they are that is). Especially given the conditions they’ve experienced on the journey to get here, which often does take months. 
 

Around half of asylum claims are accepted - Even those rejected are overturned on appeal more often than not.

I’m sure they’d happily put up with no allowance and jollies into town for a chance of refugee status. Do you honestly believe it would work? 

That’s just for starters. Yes freedom to walk around camp but also work whilst on camp. Let’s be honest the months they have taken to get here has seen them staying in perfectly stable countries. Theres a reason they don’t want to stay in those countries (I’m not having that everyone coming here has family here and that’s why they want to be here). 
 

And it’s not just illegal immigration that’s the problem, it’s legal as well. We are letting far too many come over here especially whilst the country is in the state it’s in.  There’s needs to be some sort of block for 10’Years, only those coming over who can contribute are allowed here.

How would you feel about an amnesty for people that are already here who haven't commited any offences?

And then something more Draconian for new arrivals past a certain date? 

I worry that the backlog is so high at the moment that we will never realistically process them all.

Sorry, but that's irrelevant. 

They don't arrive like Paddington with a label with rapist, knifeman etc.

Hence they all should be treated with the same suspicion.

We know they're largely not fleeing from war torn areas etc, and have paid a tidy sum to get here.

We're full, we're skint and and they won't stop coming until we do get seriously tough, hostile or whatever phrase folk want to use.

Just for an example, I heard a stat (last month iirc) from a police force- Dorset I think- they had 160 ish sexual assault cases on their hands, and over 40% involved illegals.

Utterly ridiculous and time to stop.

I note the home secretary is looking to the Danish model; well she categorically won't copy it to any great extent- they take jewellery off migrants (with some exceptions) to pay for their processing.

Not a chance this government will adopt a similar approach, which begs the question of how tough they will make it.
