Remember going to Blackpool ( maybe day after boxing day ) in the mid 70s . Went on the train from trinity street . Just turned up at the station and bought a ticket . Booking hall was rammed wit

Blackpool away. Getting in at half time because of the queues.

Shite.

Drove to port vale, parked up, hadn't even locked the car door before someone told us it had been called off, frozen pitch, drove home

New Years Day?

Anyway, Sunderland at home, that header, 42,000

Blackpool away, 2-0, there's more of us than you! We were top, think they were 4th, we won the league they got relegated.

Big Sam's header a never forget moment & I had Taggart in the minibus sweep when we beat Grimsby. ...Gudnis screamer was Boxing day too I think.

Aye, was a shock, didn't even think to check beforehand

Only good thing that came from the day was driving back up the m6 in slow traffic and past some wolves fans who'd broke down en route to Stockport so they were clearly missing their match too

Correct. No idea how it never appears in the ‘greatest Premier League goals’ stuff that does the rounds every now and then.

Remember Ferdinand and Woodgate looking immense for Leeds with Fowler scoring a hat trick, we were proper dominated that day

Certainly Newcastle and Grimsby we're superb.

went to roker park and after we equalised a bloke tapped in on the shoulder and gave me my car keys - I had dropped them in the celebrations, now that was lucky.

Boxing Day at Oldham in 75, Bolton took 14,000 fans that day to see us lose 2-1, the day after made up though with us beating Sunderland 2-1.

1st I really remember taking the piss with our away support was Blackpool mid 80’s, took thousands.

didnt we lose at PNE on the plastic on Boxing Day too with quite a few there? 3-1 seems to spring to mind, maybe 1990ish

Early KO that day, 12,000, must have taken 5000.

I always thought that was Boxing Day but someone recently told me that it was the 27th?? "The Burnden Bulge" headline in the BEN next day

And thinking back I'm sure my Dad was at Oldham the day before and stood on the Oldham paddock and had his pocket picked - yonner cunts nicked his wallet and he was on the dole at the time

Am I wrong? Did we play games in consecutive days? Or am I a mixed-up old fucker?

You are correct, i went both games. 24,537 at Boundary Park and 42,680 on our gaff against Sunderland the day after.

Was it boxing day or new years day that Paul Comstive scored two direct from corners?  Think we won 4-2 but can't for the life of me think who against (want to say Bournemouth)

Think that was New Year’s Day either 4-2 or 4-1

Yes it was Bournemouth - but New Year’s Day, around 1988

edit, just looked it was NYD 1991

I remember some irate Barnsley fan after the Boxing Day game in 97 saying to us in proper S Yorks dialect " I hope you had a dee had christmas  yoo slack twats " :D

Boxing Day 2015, drove from Crawley to Rotherham, watched the 4-0 defeat sober, then drove back that night to Crawley. The next day I drove the family back up to Huddersfield, passing the Rotherham exit on the M1.
