The most deceptive leg injury. Hate treating them

Most annoying injury/condition for me was costochondritis...

Went docs a few times with it (before I self-diagnosed) - every time they said it was acid-reflux and prescribed PPIs meanwhile I'm writing my will thinking I've got heart failure.

Only exercise I could do was on the pushiron, I was going onto Seven Acres on that steepish path from Bury Rd, hit an unseen cobbled culvert covered with grass and leaves at full pelt and went sailing through the air and landed right on my chest somehow.

Made the existing pain ten times worse, ignored it a few days until I genuinely thought an embolism was at the doorstep of my heart...

Walked through to A+E and they gave me strong co-codamol - pain gone.

Took around eighteen months of doing pretty much sod all apart from popping co-codamol before it was right.

The initial cause? Planking - without a doubt.

There's a stupid poster/saying one sometimes sees in gyms etc.

'Pain is weakness leaving the body...'

Nah, sometimes it's just pain. Sometimes (when planking for example) it's your body saying:

"What the fuck are you doing to me, you stupid cunt?"

I recently started exercising again after an unrelated six months of unenforced idleness. I started having chest twinges after doing press-ups and thought it was back - I could've cried.

Touch wood and thank Allah it was just unfitness pangs.

I topped out at 102kg (6' 2") during the costo crisis - favvered Jabba the Hut.

You can't say that. It's 2021.

I'm sure a lot of the runners on here with injuries, past and present, are the same folk who were enquiring or fielding enquiries on fancy dan shoes and the quackery that is 'gait analysis'.

I ask this, is one's gait the same on a treadmill as on the road?

And...

Which of these would one best feel the contours of the ground and adjust accordingly?

This?

Or this?

I'm currently running in a pair of these I've had about fourteen years, and never get any niggles (touch wood)...

I was going to treat myself to a 'proper' pair of runners last month but thought "if it ain't broke..."

As an aside, I used to have to buy Nike or Reebok etc. trainers just for running purposes as if I bought Adidas they'd soon migrate into regular wearage, 'too good' for clodhopping around Bolton (TRX 'McVicar', various ZX's, New Yorks...)

Ice pack on it for 20 mins a night, bandage support on it, keep it up when you’re resting

You tried calf guards/sleeves? I wasn't convinced they did anything for me when I used to wear them but they are cheap enough to maybe have a go with these days.

Yes. Been wearing them pre-injury. Actually got them on now around the house.

Had tendinitis in both Achilles 4 years ago. It’s horrible and a slow road to full recovery.

Running & eating shit in equal amounts. Given up with the scales. They won’t offer me any pleasure!

It's that time of the year where i lie to myself about next years exercise targets..so i'm looking for one of those fitness watches -what's a reliable one? not the silly priced bollocks though. Tanks

Fit bits

all their equipment is good and reliable. I have an Apple Watch because all my equipment Is Apple and it’s just easier

Mapmyride and your phone.

Get a small Bluetooth speaker and stick it in your pocket - get some tunes on.

I saw some porn girl with an apple watch on as she got bummed on a video - why? Tarted up to the nines but with an Apple watch on.

I got a polar vantage last year when I decided to shift some timber. Great if your planning on doing running or cycling.

but something cheaper in hindsight would have done the job.

fit bits like Rudy says would be just the job

15kg gone this last 12 months for me. Lose a wee bit more then Maintain and more muscle is the order of the day for me in the new year

Nice one. Gonna have a nosy at some now

I have a fitbit and this year I am determined to actually use the fucker for things apart from telling me the time.

I am aiming to cut down on the beer and get out walking more. January and February are generally shit so I am not going to go daft from the off, gradually reversing trends and by the time spring comes I hope to be on track to losing the belly for summer.

Im deffo sorting my shit out in January.

I was actually doing ok till my mum pegged it, winter struck and it all went tits up.

Not stepped foot in my gym since October. £25 a month for nothing.

Pies, bacon butties and 2 dinners every day is taking it toll.

Gonna smash it in jan. Meat and veg only and fuck the beer off.

Never been as fit.

Averaged 15KM a day now for the last 9 months.

Now weigh less than 70KG but I don’t want to go any less.

IAMIN

only so long I can blame it on having a baby.

About 4 1/2 stone to lose I reckon so I'm in the sorting my shit out camp as well.

Also bought a airfryer. Not a fucking clue what to cook with it. Who was it who proper loved theirs? I've forgotten

Losing weight in January is the worst time if you’re going to do it start slow in January and build it up otherwise you’ll  be having a breakdown in a lay-by eating toblerones  by Valentine’s Day

@Escobarp

Was right on it until we started challenging for promotion and then it was boozing and barbecues every week. And then everything opened up and we seem to be going away once a month. Having worked so hard to lose nearly 6 stone at one point, I reckon I’ve easily put 2 stone back on in the last 7 months. Need to sort my shit out, and then remember that Hartlepool, Shrewsbury and Morecambe are all in the next 6 weeks 🤦🏻‍♂️
