Pathetic. Utterly pathetic.

So don’t you think it’s crazy that people are spending  10s of millions on beach front properties when in the space of a few decades they could be under water? I thought you would agree?

Who’s side are you on?

Its irrelevant. If they have the money and want to enjoy such a property then so be it.

But back to what we need to do to prevent this crisis...you know the stuff that actually matters.

I wouldn’t expect banks to loan money on such properties, would you? Maybe someone should inform them?

You see, I do understand.

but, there are people screeching that the past leaders and generations have failed them. I get that they feel that way.

So, it is now their time to lead, show leadership and the “whataboutisms” are indicators that they are, as yet, not fulfilling that role, showing their lack of authenticity.

Once again - an irrelevance to the discussion. But regardless I doubt they are using mortgages.

That is a weak, weak argument. Another attempt at deflection. They are trying to enact change. The point is everyone accepts change is needed. Some prefer to accept the fact but ignore it because its more convenient.

The whole point is nobody is "clean" or has complete authenticity - this is a change required across the whole of the UK from top down and bottom up. And across the whole world. But we've spent decades knowing it was happening but not dealing with it. Now we've run out of time and extreme measures are required. We could have been less extreme had deniers not muddied the waters for 30 years.

Such properties....there’s 1000s being built around the world. And yes it’s highly likely they’re using mortgages, that’s how the rich work.

Are we all on about the woman on andrew Neil’s show last night? Surely she wasn’t 16

I am not deflecting, and I resent that.

Maybe the banks aren't loaning, and they're cash buys?

A mare of my brother in laws has just had to cash purchase a property (just over £1M) near Worthing, as the bank wouldn't allow a mortgage on it due to potential tidal erosion  -  so I think the banks are fully aware, when they need to be

Are you taking Barack Obama buying a house near a beach as evidence that climate change isn't happening?

Are you just coming up with ridiculous assumptions?

There is something a little unnerving about what Neil was saying there; fewer deaths now because of weather events for example. Perhaps far greater ability to predict and warn populations about potential dangers is largely responsible, and not that climate change is somehow less than we thought. Other points also caused me to raise an eyebrow.

However the biggest issue was the lady's complete inability to address these comments and to put forward a more reasoned response to his questions.

For example a half metre sea level rise in itself might not cause a massively worldwide problem, but perhaps accompanying warming events elsewhere and potential affects on land and it's suitability to provide food or somewhere suitable to live may, cumulatively, cause greater issues.

It's this sort of information, that she should be able to convey, it's out there, but she couldn't back up the sensationalist, fear tactics.

Indeed she went as far as to say it's not for her to do that, not come up with solutions.

That's what we've been talking about this whole thread: if you want credibility, don't just be a protest movement that causes disruption but offers no new information nor solutions.

Frankly, she was way, way out of her depth and was easy meat for him.

I was surprised about the amount of deaths caused by weather.

Yes she was way out of her depth and did nothing to help herself and the protestors.

Yes she was. But its typical of the response of people like Neil - he had someone not used to doing this - he does this every day and is fed his information by a huge team. She isn't a highly paid politician - who often cannot discuss basic policy without making tits of themselves - and therefore it was a bit of a pointless setup. It doesn't change the fact this is happening. And frankly is irrelevant.

Point scoring isn't going to save us. Protestors are trying to raise the issue - I don't know why people can't accept that and move on. The key thing is how we proceed.

Ok

so what are your solutions?

What actions are you taking?

How are you proceeding?

They're not raising the issue. Other sources already done that.

They're pissing people off unfortunately.

I notice you haven't offered any actions you'd be prepared to accept yet. Just the same as them. A lot of air and no substance.

Perhaps they could get the arses into gear, utilise their energies and do something practical like donate money/trees to organisations like the woodlands trust and maybe even go and plant the buggers.

This. Nailed on.

What I've been asking, yet nothing. Waiting for mandating.
