Which is why the routes through Bolton for example - inspite of being the most overcrowded route in the country a few years ago don't get attention because they are low profit commuter routes. I don't know how that is fixed under the current model - even when government intervened the companies would rather just give up the franchise. The track and infrastructure is publicly owned - the routes privately operated. I just don't think that is desirable or even sustainable for our transport network.

January 22, 20206 yr A new line manc to Leeds to be built. Consultation to start over best route. Far more important than hs2. In fairness a lady from Leeds council made as good a case for hs2 as anyone I've heard. However it still makes a lot of the time saving (she claimed almost an hour). It is this which evidence (from Spain iirc) suggests will just make London grow more by allowing a bigger commuter belt. As for capacity, allowing more people and businesses to function better within the region should help to slow demand increases. As for MPs up here not wanting hs2- maybe that's because they are best placed to assess what is really needed and how best to spend the money.

Does anyone commute to London at anything like regular intervals? What are the trains like- always seats available?
