The government has said that it’s hoping to that 40% of the population get it to give us some herd immunity ahead of round 2 in the Autumn

The 1% death rate will depend on the mix of that 40%

If it’s all kids and young people with the oldies locked away then it could well be much lower than 1%. If the oldies get clobbered then it could be much higher than 1% as Italy are finding out

Lets say we get 40% infected in round 1 as per our plan, let’s say we do a great job of getting the mix right and it’s 0.25% rather than 1% (or 3% like Italy), your still looking at 100k deaths in spring with more to come in Autumn

You don’t need to be an expert to make simple calculations from the widely published numbers. The experts across every major government, global business and financial institution are all seeing the same things! Thus the extreme measures that are being taken everywhere - this is so far from a normal event

Meanwhile Radcliffe thinks they Euros will still be on in June and he’s worried about missing out on a cheap train ticket

The wanderers way herd is 4,400 registered users - I'd estimate that our average age is early 50's, some older some younger,  so assuming  mortality rates around 2%. If 80% of us get infected that's 70 deaths - who's up for herd immunity??

A good 60 of those will be lurkers so we will never know the true number

A more accurate indication will be Netflix subscription numbers, let’s keep a close eye on those figures over the coming months

😀😀 you carry on with your silly figures Dr Birch

Im waiting for pictures of his tea bag manufacturing plant in his extension

Ha ha

We are trialing a mass work from home day on Monday, all but production staff working from home to see how our systems hold up ahead of the big lock down

The good people who keep the factory turning will be working day and night to keep the Tea flowing though, before absences through illness kick in

A mate works in the Warburtons factory, might not seem it but folk on food production lines, transport and grocery retail up and down the country are going to be critical over the coming months to keep us all fed and watered - hero’s to a man (and women) along with the other critical services

Take your point but bread and tea arent needed

Be gutted when the asda pizza counter closes

There've been a couple of reports that the behavioural scientists have now conceded that not banning sporting events and mass gatherings was a mistake, which is slightly concerning.

But Kent White's mate Dr. Campbell seems to think the Government's approach in general makes sense - we know the virus is out there and spreading so there's no point trying to prevent it or test people for it, just manage it as best we can

Tea maybe not as it has no calorific value, certainly helps lift spirits though as it’s a key part of people’s routine, take it away and the mental impact of it could be quite drastic

Bread is absolutely critical though

I'm in a similar situation Mounts. I've a Mrs who's immunocompromised and a Dad in his 60's with stage 4 COPD. Either of them could really do without it.

Is your Dad still looking after himself or does he have help?

Dads still technically at home but currently in respite care, he’s not in a good state physically or mentally think he’s on the last leg of his journey sadly, hope your Dad and wife get through without any issues and good luck and thanks to folk like you who we are all relying on.

We keep getting told symptoms don’t show until day 4, Wash your hands, wash your hands, wash your bastard hands.

50,000 people at Cheltenham, In close proximity, and exchanging already filthy pound notes.

Madness IMO

Plenty of recipes on Netflix

My son, who had returned from Italy last week, is now out of self isolation due to the change in government advice.

It's highly likely that most of us are going to have to do this at least once over the coming months, so, a few things my family learned in this period.

1/ It's fucking boring being in self isolation - having to stay in one room may sound easy, and like a good chance to get some peace and quiet, but after a day or two cabin fever sets in. Make sure you've already got TV's, books, snacks, tissues, medicine, chargers, spare clothes etc in the rooms your'e going to use for isolation. If you have to sort this when you're already infected you'll spend hours cleaning every surface you've touched.

2/ Try and work out what you are going to do if multiple people have to self isolate at the same time - you're supposed to sleep alone, in well ventilated rooms, with the door shut, don't go in the garden at the same time. Use, store and clean clothes, towels, crockery separately, supposed to use a separate tea towel.

3/If you share a bathroom it's got to be cleaned after every use of an suspected infected person, so rota for who uses it last.

4/Don't let pets roam into isolation rooms, and if they get in, don't stroke them.

5/Get some extra bin bags.

6/ forgot to mention - your'e supposed to double bag any personal waste, like tissues and then keep in your isolation room for 72 hours before putting in your bin. we did this with clothes too - double bagged them up, kept in the room for 3 days then washed and dried separately. - its a fucking nightmare.

Aye, in hindsight the decision to let it go ahead might look stupid.

A fair few people who wouldn't normally miss a day of it ended up travelling home with "symptoms" before the final day.
