One of those places though that would mean both sets of fans travelling in the same direction (not that that’s a problem now sending everyone to Wembley) rather than being between the two sides. Just a bit out of the way really. For the above, I guess it was considered reasonably easy for the Jocks down the motorway, and then by the Irish play off the Dutch could fly straight in and the Paddies had planes, boats and ex-pats.

Others that have not been mentioned so far - in the previous round - Brentford away - no one on that infamous football special will ever forget the ordeal of that journey - arriving back into Trinity street station about 2am. Southampton at home in about 1973 when the power cuts were on - it was played on a weekday school term afternoon. Never, after being given advance warnings to be in school or face punishment , had so many school children in Bolton played truant on the same day. We were told in advance under 16s would be turned away - we got dressed up to make sure we looked old enough to get in, and remember approaching Burnden half expecting to be turned away. When we got to the ground there were no checks and there were no juvenile turnstiles open had to pay full to get in. When we got in immediately bumped into 2 of our teachers who were likewise playing truant. In more recent times aside from Birmingham , quite enjoyed Millwall 2012 - only time we have ever taken decent numbers there .

Stood along the side but just about everywhere was Bolton supporters. A couple of huddersfield fans walked through the gang way at the front but were met with a Bolton gang who decided he disliked them so much that he'd decided to tup one of them. (When did a head butt stop being referred to as a tup?) Huddersfield lad's head split like an orange.
