I have 2 lads playing on Saturdays and another starting within the next few weeks. I work every other Saturday so me and the missus take it turns to go to the eldests game as he plays in the Yorkshire league. So far she has had to travel to Sheffield, Huddersfield and Halifax and she has Doncaster this Saturday. (10am KO 🤢)  I’ve had to travel to Salford twice and 2 postponements 😂😂 she fkin hates me.

Why is he is in Yorkshire League ? He is tied to a club ?

When my step lad was younger he played for the B team at Guiseley for some reason in final year joined the Harrogate league which is about 15 miles away, but you also have teams other side of Harrogate so could be doing 40 miles away trips to play or watch a fucking awful standard of kids football. One week would be a 9:30 kick off, then a 14:30, so either up early or the whole day taken up. Fortunately started playing him in goal as could kick it furthest so he got pissed off and stopped playing.

Salford Schoolboys play in Yorkshire League as there isn’t a Manchester one any more. BBDFL stretches from Cheetham Hill to Wigan to Tottington!

If you include the girls you can stretch that to Rainford, Accrington and Preston !

They look older.

You trying telling one of them they’re grounded 😂

I’ve heard a few Newcastle lads were 1st year scholar, so maybe just turned 17. My lad was 16 yesterday. He’s the kid blaming himself despite flying through the air and getting just below the bar

Rousing 8-0 win to stave off any relegation worries before the end of this phase.

Cracker from the lad too. I ran the line like a fucking warrior.

On a negative note, my son looks like he might have some sort of Medial Ligament strain and has to rest. Been flying recently but at least I get a lie in tomorrow!

His first game back this Saturday since mid Oct. Partly to injury, then a victim of half term holidays and the weather. Best he’s played in ages.

Box of tricks, looked fit, hungry and completely energised. Had 2 glorious chances to score in the first few minutes of the game cutting in off the line and getting 1v1 with the keeper, but on both occasions squared it for his teammate to tap it into the empty net instead.

Had to speak to him about being a cocky little fucker though, megged a lad and called it when they were about 6-1 up. Was a bit embarrassing to be honest as there’d been no aggro at all in the game. Don’t want to knock that confidence out of him, but there’s a time and place for all that and wasn’t on Saturday in Adlington

Silent weekend this weekend.

Only applause allowed from the spectators.

...good luck with that in Fleetwood :)

I love this- stfu!! Amount of parents who distract kids and contradict instructions are ridiculous.

Plenty round there who'll start a kick off in an empty house

... and after rejecting trials at wigan and bolton!! he was offered a trial at oldham. 4 weeks there and got offered a 2 year contract which he signed about 6 weeks ago.

Good for him.

Can I ask his reasons for rejecting trials at Wigan & Bolton ?

Not in for a dig in any way, just curious why one is accepted & two aren't.

5 years on from my original OP, and ive not posted for yonks, so thought id share my lads journey here.

after the original question about fleetwood, the lad (now 15) had 12 months at burnley (amazing setup) but released. Then straight into preston for 12 months (not great). Feedback from both was the same, not hungry enough and not selfish enough (whatever that means)

that hurt him alot, went back to his original grass roots for 12m at euxton, then joined a JPL club, chorley. Was wary of JPL as heard a lot of stuff about dream chasers and "not an academy", ideas of grandeur etc, but honestly the step up from grass roots was huge.

started playing district footy, and again then moved him up a level.

anyway 2/3 years later, and confidence regained and after rejecting trials at wigan and bolton!! he was offered a trial at oldham. 4 weeks there and got offered a 2 year contract which he signed about 6 weeks ago.

not gonna lie, 1 hour down the m61 3 or 4 times a week is serious commitment, but he's enjoying it.

next target is a scholarship. and after watching the oldham reserves this week, he's not far off making a first team appearance. 🤣

Love that- currently U16s? Danny Philliskirk in charge at Oldham, Burnley have a few kids released there and one just signed from my old grassroots side.
