It's that match v Darlington (5/11/86?). What it would have looked like if everyone who claims to have been there, really was.

Now Jim, when I mentioned "rattle" you immediately thought of "rattler" a colloquial name for a train, and suggested Crewe Alexandra, a place inextricably linked to trains. Well it was a good idea but

Yeah I do. Only because my dad used to cycle there in comps pre WW2. That inner curve of terracing became an outdoor velodrome and there was an athletics track as well. I thought that it was still there as a sports venue but seemingly not like you say

One awful car trip to Palace years ago, we wrongly parked up at the sports track  & also a railway yard....both had floodlights.

Always travelled to Palace by train after that fiasco !!

Pretty sure there is some stat that it’s the furthest ground from a motorway junction or something like that. We drove to the 2-0 win when Ian Marshall scored and it’s the only time we drove to Selhurst.

Norwich surely wins that

Closest to motorway possibly Walsall but whether it's near a junction dunno

Aye. That’s what I reckon. My dad used to get on his bike and ride from Bolton to work at Metro Vics at Trafford Park. Would then ride to Fallowfield on some summer nights to compete for Lancashire Clarion (iirc) on the cycle track there. Then he’d ride back to Bolton. Mad fucker

Could well be. I suspect we might win on closest. Reading must be close.

Leeds maybe?

Seem to remember West Brom being straight off the motorway

Further than us but not far

Think it moved there which is why I thought that it was still a venue. Looks like the original place in Zico’s photo was built on and they moved the sports facilities to Owens Park

When I lived in fallowfield/withington I had great difficulty picturing where the ground would of been.

Ok, there may be some confusion here

I just google image searched and it seems says Crystal Palace for the 1901 fa cup final

But the FB group had it down as the 1901 final replay at burnden

Don’t think it’s Burnden as wasn’t that the famously low crowd? 20k ish so looks far too busy?
