It's that match v Darlington (5/11/86?). What it would have looked like if everyone who claims to have been there, really was.

Now Jim, when I mentioned "rattle" you immediately thought of "rattler" a colloquial name for a train, and suggested Crewe Alexandra, a place inextricably linked to trains. Well it was a good idea but

13/15 with some lucky guesses

12/15 it went pear shape at the end.

Better than my guesses then!

Reckon I had 2 or 3 that were perhaps a choice from a couple, and plumped the wrong way. 😄

Being able to scan in helped

Kits, badges, advertising hoardings, etc, gave too many clues. As did multiple choice

All the stuff that @Underpants removes like the rascal he is

Even with readers on I reckon my eyes must be a bit shit.

Struggled to make out some of the detail.

10/15 but what did you reckon is the right answer for 14? I put The Dell based on very little skyline in the background so figured it was by the sea.

Griffin Park.

Seems as good a thread as any for this...

Pleased to see #4 a large supermarket though.

Still my nightmare.

I missed it first look.

'Selective blindness' maybe.

It really is fantastic.

As are the guardian article and the thread above with the responses. Some iconic stadium features.

It is good, but to think that Burnden Park is remembered in general  for the Normid monstrosity is a travesty.

Still think its maddest thing to happen in the history of football grounds.

It was always normalised in my head till I explained to my children that we sold a quarter of the ground to let them build a supermarket on.

Its absolutely insane.

Hull at Boothferry Park had Iceland (the supermarket not the country) built onto their ground, though it was less prominent from TV angles

When we got promoted under Rioch my brother got me into the Civic reception in the town Hall. Speeches & dinner after the Town Square waving & applause.

I was sat on a table with, amongst others, the Council Planning official who gave the Normid approval.  He said 'ffs don't raise that, she gets very sensitive about it".

Go on, have a guess whether I did or not.

Didn't the money from the sale save our bacon though?

Normid though

The only reason I've heard of Normid is because they had a supermarket on our ground

I've only ever come across one at our ground

And I've never been in one

Has anyone here ever bought anything in normid?

By that time, arguably yes. But there was absolutely no reason for it to have been the shape it was. There was discussion of it being longer & slimmer & could have made the Embankment half it's depth most of the way along.

That fckg wall 5 yards in right up to the second goalpost was an abomination. There was a sizeable car park to the side which could have been reshaped. This was a proposal as an objection but this bint rejected it.

Guess where she came from.

(Tip. It's quite close, begins with W, ends in N and isn't Warrington).

He's a great cartoonist is David Squires.

One of his best...mocking fans of tournament exiting nations, and when they're put on the big screen.

“Other stores were located in Blackpool, Crewe, Wigan, Widnes, St Helens, Talke (near Kidsgrove), Chorley, Hindley and Blackburn. Normid 1 was based in Crewe, Normid 2 Burslem, Stoke-on-Trent, Normid 3 was Milehouse, Newcastle-under-Lyme. Normid 4 Tunstall, Stoke-on-Trent, Normid 5 was the Hypermarket at Talke. Normid 6 and 7 were Macclesfield and Longton, Stoke-On-Trent.”
