There’s an underlying tone on here in the last few days, teetering on saying something but not. Instead choosing to leave things open to interpretation with enough get out of jail free cards to not fully commit to a comment. 
If you can’t appreciate someone’s sporting commitment, dedication or achievements to see that they should be lauded for that and nothing not thibk it’s anything to do with their creed, colour, race, disability , gender sexual orientation then it’s a pretty sad world we will live in. 
World is diverse enough as it is, without it taking over sport over petty points and squabbles.

For me SPOTY Is more of an individual award, unless you’re one of the best players in the world (Sterling isn’t) or if you have had a long career and won virtually everything (see Giggs) footballers should come under the team award. Are you telling me Sterling should be up for it before Jason Kenny?

When Raheem was needed by his club and country he stepped up. Put al the shit behind him and rose to the occasion on more than one occasion. Won two major trophies. So many players who wouldn’t get the recognition if their team wasn’t great so that’s not fair. 
And Kenny would be the first to tell you he doesn’t have a personality and wouldn’t want that kind of limelight

Neither does Giggs and many other winners. Sterling has been shite this year and for a lot of last season. His goal record was the lowest for a few seasons. Not sure about stepping up like.

There is the discussion about context - as Rudy says Sterling was a hero for many over the summer when we got to an international football final. That hasn't been done before and you could rightly make the case he was our stand out player. You may not agree, but it's not beyond discussion.

There is no box ticking, it just the fact that more people from a wider range of backgrounds access sport at the top levels nowadays. Which I believe most folk think is a good thing.

No, not on this occasion. He most certainly can't be accused of an ism and I didn't for one moment he was being a thruster.

It may also be the case he was concerned about proffering his views in case of being pilloried.
