Got my lad one too. It's fucking amazing. 

Only thing that pissed me off was having to set up a facebook account. It was relatively straight forward though, and when I suddenly appeared in that Tatooine-style cave/lobby place, my brain nearly popped. Incredible piece of kit for the price. Lad spent the rest of the morning in 'Job Simulator' cooking pizzas and fixing cars and throwing shit at robots. It's the type of gaming experience I dreamt of as a kid. You literally feel like you're in another world. Mental.

Basically, you can only use the Oculus Quest if you register it to a genuine facebook account (i.e. using your real name), because Oculus is owned by facebook. If you use a false name (I assume their systems cross-check it against payment methods), they could potentially ban you from the Oculus network altogether - rendering your machine useless. Tungsten's insinuation is - you are giving facebook permission to monitor EVERYTHING you do do with your Oculus Quest - so if you use it to watch VR porn, their system will have a record of it and they know your name. I'm not sure what they might do with that knowledge, but that's what he's talking about.

I understand the privacy concern, but I'm not particularly fussed as I simply registered a facebook account in my real name, then locked it down in the security settings so it doesn't exist to anyone else but me, and I doubt my 8 year old is going to be downloading any VR porn in the near future.

Forgive me if I’m being a bit thick but is this the same sort of thing as you search on Google to buy a combine harvester and then every website that you visit, that basically funds itself via adverts, shows you adverts for combine harvesters?

And that folk like me need to learn more about privacy settings?

Not for porn. But recently I searched for VW camper vans and I’m being pounded for ads for them

I managed to live in reality, it was proper hard watching Bolton on a roller coaster ride, but great fun.

Hull City away, drove my mam and dad to Manc Airport, then to work in Chester, picked up two mates in Whitefield on the way to the match and never had a drink, that seemed like virtual reality.

I'm sure my phone listens to me , was talking about getting a new van for work and get inundated with vans for sale. A while ago I was looking for this cream that was meant to be good for circulation I suffer with cowd hands and feet, it contained l' arginine what ever that is any how couldn't find this cream but keep getting bombarded with adds for nob extending cream ! Do is work.?

It does but only if you rub it on for a friend 😂

Listens to and sees what you search for, especially with WhatsApp if you have Facebook, because they’re the same Company. If you go in to App settings you can turn Off the mic and it will reduce it, it’s been doing it for years

These Oculus things; is it limited if you aren’t running it off a PC with “proper” games on or something? Or can you just purchase and then get cracking?

I started to read up on them a while back and then just gave up cos it was confusing me (shock!)

The new one doesn’t need a pc 

Its a standalone, you just download the games direct to the unit (64gb)

I didn’t realise how fucking brilliant it would be.
