Question to all those who are against players kneeling before the game.  Would you be for or against a different kind of anti-racism display by players before each and every game?  For example, instead of going down on one knee they all sit cross-legged (assuming that doesn't have any links to a political movement).  Bit of a daft example, but you get my point.

It is ironic that one of the supporting arguments for booing is that BLM is a Marxist organisation.

Boris Johnson's senior political adviser Munira Mirza was a member of the Revolutionary Communist Party and contributed to its "Living Marxism" magazine. I personally suspect Johnson to be a "Liberal Marxist" especially with his levelling up agenda which is more socialist than Tory.

If you're saying that by taking the knee that football players are representing Marxist views that coincide with defunding the police and overthrowing capitalism you're deeping it way too hard.

MLK took the knee back in the 60s. Taking the knee in football and the term "black lives matter" can coexist as a separate message from whatever radical shit people from the official BLM group have said or done. When someone says "black lives matter" I'm more inclined to perceive that statement on face value, not some hidden agenda that is anti freedom of speech.

I can understand those saying "what is it achieving" and agree with Rudy that it has lost some of its weight now but I just find it rather mental how staunchly people try and twist a positive message against racism into some identity politics conspiracy. I really don't understand how it is affecting your life that adversely that it makes you want to boo it.

Boo a player from a rival team who's a cunt, boo a shit manager's tactics who hasn't got a clue.

Boo your own players for doing an anti-racism gesture? Not for me.

The point that DazBob makes about, would people be so pissed off if they just sat cross legged, or something else, is a really good one.

No i wouldnt be against any show of solidarity against racism. Think kneeling has gone on too long now would be surprised if Bolton still did it next season.

unfortunately by booing those who want it to end have ensured the pantomime will go on. Nobody should feel pressure to do anything for fear of being vilified and i include wearing a poppy as an example of that. You can still be respectful of anything in your own way this shaming bollocks pisses me off

Agree with both above.

Been discussed at length before- and in reply to Daz, we've already got plenty of symbolism at games from other, more appropriate schemes.

22 players, consisting of all manner of colours and races is the best response to any racist element, and the support of them by the massive majority fans.

Let’s just crack on with the football and leave the knee/rainbows & anything else out of it

Exactly, we (England) won't do anything in this tournament, to much politics involved and a wet wipe muppet of a manager, let's get on with the football, teams run out, national anthems (even that can fuck off), shake hands, captains toss a coin, kick-off

I see what you’re both saying but that comes across as really outdated. Especially in the social media age.

Nothing would please me more than headlines just being about what happens in the match, but it’s not the case.
Imagine saying to a player who’s been abused because of the colour of their skin, ahh well let’s just ignore it and play football.

Imagine your kids coming home from playing football upset because someone making derogatory remarks about their skin colour.

It can’t be ignored and it shouldn’t be ignored, kneeling probably isn’t the way to solve it but there has to be something.
it wouldn’t be accepted in a 9-5 job, footballers are still human

Taking the knee doesn't change anything. Neither will anything else the players do. It's not up to them to sort out anyway. It sends out a message just like Kick It Out did but it won't stop racism. BLM has bad links to movements hijacked by others and that's the problem.

Racism isn't just one way and is sadly just a part of life... nobody will change this. I don't believe here in UK we had much of problem but unfortunately now it seems to be getting worse and not better.

This social media abuse has really lifted off since the blm movement/kneeling started. Of course it happened previously, but nothing like to this extent.

Which as I said before, for me isn't a load of racist twats coming out of the woodwork, but scum wums who will look to find an angle on any subject that they can use to cause distress to people. That behaviour, will be towards any one they can victimise, not sure colour is the main motive. Just purely attention seeking scum.

Report them to Twitter etc and the police, and fuck it off for good if it is causing genuine mental health issues. Stick to playing the game, enjoy the fans and decent folk, and don't give the cunts a platform.

This constant media coverage and reaction is precisely what the cunts crave. Don't give it to them.

But that’s the thing I’ve said it before players now are signed to social media, they’re are contractually obligated to post on it because sponsors want it. Twitter aren’t going to do anything they can’t police it, so what are players supposed, shut up and play?

Is it actually a lot worse now than it was? Or is it footballers have now decided enough is enough and are highlighting it, rather than just accepting it as an occupational hazard as so many did do for so long?

You've not changed my mind, I go to football to watch football, if I want politics, I will watch PMQ Wednesday at midday. Its as simple as that.

I've said this before, we have watched numerous players at Bolton over the years, Jay-Jay, Youri, N'Gotty, Ricketts, Barnes, SJM, Le Fondre, Jussi to name a few, cheered them to the rafters because irrespective of their colour, they all wore a BWFC shirt.

Anti-Racism isn't politics

Just because players of colour have been cheered by non-racist fans doesn't mean racism doesn't exist

Players don't have to agree to a contract do they?

That suggests it's just money oriented.

If you're using it as a friendly communication tool with fans etc and are having it hijacked by trolls, it's twatty in the extreme.

Either way, just come off- twitter will soon suffer if shit loads of celebrities jack it in.

I think so for sure.

Maybe more are being publicised, but it's definitely more of a thing.

It's not just footballers that get it- we had the poor lass (Caroline Flack) killing herself after abuse, and there are other examples of this. An addictive, potentially dangerous route for some, and they should be helped to fuck it off. Maybe the trolls will then use the trees to top themselves as they've no raison d'etre as no one is paying attention to their vile ways.

See, your already against me because I don't agree with you.

And that's the point, I want just the football and you want football & politics, we could be here years arguing about this bullshit, it's going to ruin England's tournament, and the players will blame the fans, and all the fans want is to support the England players no matter what their colour.

If players have a problem with abuse they receive on social media, take it up with twitter and Facebook, if a fan in the ground aims racist abuse at a player on the pitch, the club should ban them for life.

I don't want to see it before a football game and that doesn't make me racist.

...and I also wouldn't boo, I just wouldn't take my seat until the referee blows his whistle for kick-off, and those who do boo, it doesn't make them racist.

Well said 👏
