Problems sleeping

Never ever had this problem before. I just can't seem to switch off and lack of sleep is turning me into a grumpier bitch than usual.

Things go round in my head and it is stupid o'clock in the morning before I finally nod off. I wake up and look/feel like shit.

Is frigging myself off and a bottle of wine a night the only answer? Cos it doesn't seem to work.

Im always up crack of dawn after drinking. Usually still pissed, puking and needing 12 litres of water all at same time.

Doesn't even have to be much - one or two and thats it. No sleep past 4am

Stay as far away from alcohol as humanly possible. You don't get good sleep after drinking. Its laced with sugar and dehydrates you to fuck.

Hot bath before bed will help you drop off.

I've slept better this last four weeks than I've done in years.

Seriously thinking of booking a hotel room just for myself for my birthday. 12 hours solid sleep alone is the dream.

Since having covid, my sleep is all over the place, recon its my lungs and breathing patterns waking me up.

Well I've just had a pint, so here I come...

Despite all the magic sleep potions, pills and tips available, there are only two things that are scientifically evidenced as helping you improve your sleep - cognitive behavioural therapy and 'mindfulness'. This can be as simple as getting some winter daylight and going out for a walk or run at lunchtime. Listening to the music posted by others on here etc.

I've been having sleep problems the past couple of years and CBT really helped. Turns out it was lots of other anxiety and work stress that was preventing me from switching off and staying asleep. Took a couple of months to confront them, but things have definitely improved, as has the sleep. Work is now better because I'm not being unrealistic with my expectations anymore and have a better balance. Must be even harder in your line of work with kids to juggle as well.

My therapist at the time recommended this book, it was really helpful - The Sleep Book by Dr Guy Meadows | Waterstones

Lack of sleep won't make you look like shit and you'll still function okay the next day. Try reminding yourself this if you're feeling anxious about. Plenty of overworked, shattered mums out there who still look tidy as fuck. ( @Rudy will be along shortly with a photo of a celebrity to prove it)

I feel.for folk who can't sleep, I'd drop off on a washing line.

If I'm at home, bed by 10pm, can sleep through until 8 easily.

I get 6 hours a night if i'm lucky, have done for 25 years.

My Mrs is the same, she hates the fact I drop off as soon as my head hits the pillow.

I find that adequate exercise also helps. Physical work tires the body which relaxes and repairs well when asleep.

No doubt it also helps to re-set the mind too.
