  1. Season tickets were a guinea.
  2. I think it is to the west of Bankfield Street. The ground hosted the first Football League v Scottish League match (2-2 in 1892).

Tell that to the Sunday Times!

Being hosts for the semis and final is obviously an advantage (provided the semis are reached) but you have overstated the case, or rather mis-stated it. Apart from the last 16 match (in Dublin if we win the group) the QF will be in Rome (or St Petersburg or even Munich or Baku). Several other teams will play all their group matches in their own country - Italy, Denmark, Holland, Spain and Germany. If we lose narrowly in the last 16 against France / Germany / Portugal, and that team goes on to win the tournament well, would that be failure?
  5. He was. But it was overturned on appeal.

No. it's 36 matches to eliminate 8 teams, or 48 matches to eliminate 20.
  7. England's keepers in this test and the last football international share the same surname.
  8. I'd wangled a business trip to Colchester, and nipped across for that match. I still can't believe how biased he was.
  9. They also equalled Stoke's record of finishing bottom of the top tier for two successive seasons. In fairness when Stoke did it there only was one tier anyway, but not when Newton Heath did so.
  10. Bloomberg has now declared he will contest Democrat nomination.

You shouldn't read The Sun, you really shouldn't. But it sounds like his sister might kick off at the inquest next week, generating yet another story from the tragedy for scum press.

And that final paragraph is why ManU were able to keep going in 1958. While Busby was severely injured at Munich Jimmy Murphy, his assistant, was managing Wales in their match against Israel and so was able to step into the considerable breach. Those Arabs have a lot to answer for.

They are separated at the group stage but can meet in the knock-out phase.

and the fourth team can only be Wales or Finland. Netherlands are in Ukraine's group. If Romania win through play-ffs they will be in that group, otherwise it will be Georgia / Belarus /North Macedonia / Kosovo. If Romania don't qualify then Bulgaria / Hungary / Iceland will be in Germany's group, and Georgia / etc will be only be in that group if Romania qualify. Scotland will be in England's group if they qualify. (Republic of) Ireland will be in Spain's group if they qualify.
  15. Into semis of Davis Cup (without fielding AMurray in last two rounds).

Draw is on the 30th. England are in group D. Second pot team in the group will be one of France, Poland, Switzerland and Croatia. Third pot team will be from Portugal, Turkey, Austria, Sweden and Czech Republic. Tin pot team will be Scotland if they qualify.

Cyril Robinson, Last survivor of the Blackpool '53 cup winning team had died, leaving Doug Holden as the last man standing from that match.
  18. 4th December, 7pm
  19. One of them was Nor'n Irish and had never before attended a football match. It is stretching things to describe him as a Juventus fan. He simply worked at the EEC and was persuaded by a (Dutch) colleague to go to the match. As his identical twin said to the Belfast Telegraph, he was in the wrong place at the wrong time.
  20. But this is a 44 match season. Can't remember why.
  21. After 15 matches Reading had 16 pts and Southampton led with 33.
  22. Because in the late 90s they had a rogue chairman and a season which began like ours. They finished a long way behind everyone in the fourth tier (goal difference -89) and then spent six seasons in 'non-league'. They used over 40 players in the season, a mixture of young kids and loan players at the end of their careers. The biggest crowd they got was over 5,000 for an FA Cup tie against Forest. 0-8. So of all clubs to have missed out on a "certain" 5-0 Donny would be the sorest. Haha.
  23. 30th November.
  24. Netanyahu was at school in Philadelphia at the same time Trump was at university there.
  25. Tranmere into extra time at Wycombe. Tranmere had a red card shortly before half time so they may be a little jaded.
