  1. Yeah... but I suspect as someone said on here the other day, ?10m is the new ?5m etc etc This new TV money has given everyone a big wedge to spend Anyway I've raised doubts about his value for the price but now he's signed, I'm more than happy and kudos to Megson for the way he goes about his transfer dealings And I get the impression he buys square pegs for square holes, Taylor certainly was bought with set pieces / delivery in mind and it worked a treat towards the end of the season Better than Lee buying everything that moved with no idea how he was gonna use them Couple more signings and we've a good season to look forward to, bring it on
  2. I didn't see a re-run for years either But it was very much as I remembered it, almost from the same angle I was at too And it was as bad, in fact worse, than I recalled
  3. Ashton was badly injured, I know that was a big reason, but even when Ashton was fit Cole retained his place at his expense last season For a couple of million he'd be a good signing as far as I'm concerned
  4. Dropping us in what? Europe? What the f?ck are you on about? And these numbers on Crouch and Elmander. Where have people discovered Crouch is on ?70k plus per week and Elmander ?30k ? Or are we guessing?
  5. 2 huge assumptions there, i.e. both salaries - which are utter guesswork. And while Liverpool say they want ?15m they will take ?12m in the end I reckon. Which is what the Elmander price tag is being touted at. Anyway Crouch will go to Pompey. Point is I feel uneasy spending this sort of money on a guy who could - not will, but COULD - turn out to be distinctly average in the Premiership. Whereas your Crouch / Johnson types, you know what you are getting. He'd be a gamble at ?6m - but ?12m? He'd better be good !
  6. This is either the 'new reality' or we are indeed paying a bit over the odds. Not sure myself. Despite looking good signings Taylor and Cahill both seemed expensive for reserves at the time. ?10-12m for Elmander just doesn't strike me as good value either. All well and good saying 'trust Megson's judgement' but Heskey, Angel, a thousand others have in their time commanded similar fees. I'd rather sign Crouch for that sort of cash.
  7. To be blunt, Khan doesn't fight ANYBODY rated. There's European fighters, fringe world class, who he could fight but doesn't. After the amount of fights he's had, fair enough, other fighters would still be fighting domestic opponents too. For his age / experience his record is perfectly good. Very good even. But he's supposed to be a prodigy and keeps talking about fighting for world titles, yet his opposition is miles off the required standard for that.
  8. Boxer in 'disrespecting other fighters and trash talking' shocker You do realise they ALL do it? Anyway, good fight, but yet again Khan has a struggle in a fight he should be winning at a canter. Gomez is a division lighter and is 5 years past his peak. And was never world class anyway, very good domestic fighter, European level at times, but that's all. I have serious doubts whether Khan will ever be world class, he is seriously flawed, not least his tendency to get knocked down. There are fighters light years better than Gomez out there. Light years. Khan must improve and get himself to the states for some proper training and sparring.
  9. How the frig did that go in? Well deserved, if Russia could convert more opportunities they'd be 4 up
  10. The article has probably lost a bit in translation and it's best not to read too much into it But I couldn't help thinking the same
  11. Was later than the Reevesy era fella We'll get to the bottom of this one eventually
  12. Ben Watson at Palace, as mentioned already, is a good player Might just be ready for the step up too Campbell at Hull/ United would be a good signing too, could be very good when he matures, he'd provide us with an option off the bench
  13. Aye We hire 'acts' for our events Peter Kay would be in the ?30k bracket easily I'd say, we've hired Tarbuck for ?20k years ago
  14. It's a tw?ts hair from Salford at most, don't be so pedantic Who cares anyway
  15. I agree Scored plenty of winners it seemed He couldn't beat a man etc but the goals more than made up for it in my opinion Who will score the goals for us next season? Only Nolan left who is anything like a goal threat
  16. Been to Maiori. Beautiful part of the world, people fantastically friendly and sport (football, motor racing etc) daft. Italy is a top place full stop. Though a weekend to the Amalfi coast, hmmm, it's a bit of a trek for 2 or 3 days. To be honest with exchange rates and flights going up, Euro trips are not what they once were...
  17. Shorey and Hunt, to replace Gardner and Diouf Nobody else from any of the teams
  18. Good signing, pleased at that He needs to actually produce more in the final third but he's undoubtedly got talent, and he might improve massively after his first proper season of first team premier league football
  19. Hehe, what a gay Vito was I moisturise every morning, gotta admit I have to, I'm a dry bastard for some reason otherwise Couple of days this week I've not wore deodorant in the office though so I'm pretty sure I'm not gay
  20. That was a month ?30k a week before bonuses I think was the gist of it Poor bugger must go hungry half the time
  21. That was still a cracking season, Stubbs and Mcateer both developing fast, McGinaly in his pomp, a few new signings like Thompson and Coyle and DeFreitas (I think they signed that season), cup run We all knew we were seriously on the up in that era
  22. His signings have been decent. He identified areas to improve and did so. He didn't do the required in terms of strikers but I can't name anyone he could've got, there was not much available. Not like he bought on the cheap though. He took reserves from other clubs for big money. 7/10 in the transfer market for me.
  23. Megson took over with ten games gone. I think we were one win from 'safety' at that point. Even Spurs only had 1 point more than us. The only reason we've had this 'miracle escape' is because Megson put us there. Up until this last four games we were on a run just as bad as Lee's ten games in charge. Nothing changes for me, Megson isn't up to the job, and what he 'deserves' doesn't come into it. Someone else already said it - we have played 2 teams at home who didn't care and we've had 2 lucky results away. I've not seen a thing to suggest we'll be better next season.
  24. I was 100% convinced we'd gone after Villa, 100% Typical BWFC making us sweat like this
  25. Aye but that doesn't mean he's the best man for the future does it? I'll doff my cap to him for keeping us up (even though we'd only played 10 games when he came in and I think he made incredibly hard work of it) But mark my words we'll be in this position next year if he stays Nothing I've seen since he arrived, nothing he did before suggests anything other than a struggle.
