I asked microsoft's free one to generate an image of "a bolton wanderers fan called Casino". Now to be fair to it, it's done a half decent job 😃

It's surely going to render a lot of trades or areas of business useless sooner rather than later, which can't be good can it?

Advertising, music, writing, Diet/Personal trainers etc etc.

Once folk figure how to use it properly it'll kill a lot of sectors off.

We're a way off, but there isn't much that it wouldn't be able to do. Planet Earth might get lucky, and AI could kill us all off within a few generations 😃

In reality, I guess jobs that require empathy and trust, like Nurses, Teachers, Shiners and Churchy/Religious types may be OK. And until robotics can advance enough to have proper dexterity (and we must still at least 20 years away from that)  -  just think, by the time AI is ready to control every aspect of our waking lives, we may just be seeing the rewards/benefits of Brexit

You can spin back 25 years and say the same thing about the internet

High street shops and banks no longer needed

But we need more delivery drivers than ever

Be reet

The "starter" jobs are now gone, the ones where you work in an office doing menial pencil work but actually learning how things work in the commercial world... this is now done by AI. I have done plenty of these jobs as a youngster, clock watching and waiting for the weekend but they do get you into a work ethic.

I think it's already killed of a lot of written translation.

Do those driver jobs replace all those lost in banking and retail?

As an aside, I saw a scientific film about the natural rubber industry and just how precarious its future is.

Lose it, and the consequences are almost unimaginable. AI is going to have to work overtime to sort out that shit storm.

re: driver jobs, no idea, though for me the point is techology has been replacing jobs for some time now, well before the digital era

as for this bit - "AI is going to have to work overtime to sort out that shit storm." - nah, humans are, but AI will help them

Technology has replaced jobs, and has been for considerable time.

Not always for the best, as the population starts to lose some basic skills, that may actually be required later.

Have a watch of that film I linked to about rubber- precisely why I said AI will have to work overtime.

It can help design molecules/treatments etc and would be required to do so.

Whether that could be quick enough, who knows, but those experts seemed very concerned about a sudden collapse of the industry and the inability to scale up alternatives.

When I first saw the headline, I thought it would be pure hype, but possibly not.

There is an increasing disconnect between people and the natural world, and how that natural world, with its human made damage is coming back to negatively affect humanity.

Bizarrely, we may need to rely on it to help us solve the issues, but if, as you say, it's only as good as they info it is provided with, then the risk still remains.

If it does go further, it may actually decide that we're not worth rescuing, and that nature would be better off healing itself.

I was having a laugh with a mate who eats crap cakes the other day and asked AI to make a fake advertisement for them.

It took 3 seconds and created something a designer and print type bod would charge the earth for and take time to create and supply.

I ordered a pop up stand for a show sent the image for their designer to create, it came back couple of days later, wasn’t impressed so chucked all the info and images into chat gpt and created a much better effort in 30 seconds.

it's taken my business offering to the next level this week

I know code, I know various website platforms at a functional level and can tweak them as required

client on Shopify wanted some fundamental changes to how their site works in terms of layout and appearance - under normal circumstances, i.e. before AI, I would've just referred them to an expert developer / agency and they'd have been charged accordingly

but I thought between my knowlege of code and the platform, and with some help from ChatGPT I'd give it a go

got it all done in two days - but only charged for one day as it was a learning curve

it wasn't a cut and paste job - lots of back and forth - me questioning if something was being done in the best way, and me fixing errors in the code provided, but, it was a great job to work on for me

so now I can undercut agencies massively and do the same job in a fraction of the time and a much lower cost

happy days

AI clearly has it's place.

Out of it, it can fuck off.

No issue with that, Christmas truly is a terrible time for many people.

Dunno if anyone has seen much about the Sandie Peggie case, but there is a possibility that AI was involved in generating notes that the tribunal used in their reasoning.

Many were inaccurate, with quotes (from the Supreme Court's previous rulings on similar cases) being incomplete and/or fabricated.

The tribunal made its findings on the back of this.

The court find in her favour but not on all counts.

The findings against her may well have been the other way had the full, accurate information been available.
