Why has it got worse? and why isn't there something resembling a 24h service in a major UK city in 2023

They don't have 24h services in some major European cities either. Apparently that makes it acceptable.

TPE have still run a few Carlisle-Preston and Carlisle-Manc Airport services so they’ll be reet. LNER are even running Carlisle-Edinburgh on exactly the same line that Avanti are claiming is closed, so it looks like it’s on Avanti, this one.

You said I wouldn't have a clue about it being a Bromley activist (although what being a member of the local Labour party has to do with it, I don't know) which is bollocks, being in fact a Boltonian, and not only that having lived across Bolton, the North West, Yorkshire, London and the South East I've lived trains for all of my student and working life from Bolton to Oxford Rd from East Grindsted to London Bridge, from Chichester to Victoria I've rode 'em all across commuter and off peak. And as for it not only being about commuting - again not sure why a socialist wouldn't know about that (and who says I'm a socialist either) but peak time issues, and ongoing cancellations are the pinch point issues - last time I got a train from Bolton to Piccadilly off peak we were a hour and a half early for our train to London, and because of cancellations due to drivers not turning up, we got there by the skin of our teeth

And as for catchment, the idea that the outer suburbs of London and into the further reaches of Kent don't know about train travel and its inherent problems is disingenous given they are some of the busiest routes in the whole of the UK. When I first moved here it was still slam door trains and standing in carridges.

Bascially, saying you had the finger on the pluse of what is happening with train issues by one train journey, and then saying I wouldn't know because I'm a 'Bromley activist' made me chuckle 🙂

That explains why the 6.15 was so busy. I usually get this one back and there's about 20 others get on it. On Saturday there must have been 300+.
