He knows me better than that, I hope with the 'old boy's name' comment he meant Joe Galvin, a great bloke who I ran with in the 70's and 80's, Keeley will never forget him, nobody who ever ran for Lei

  • Anyone feeling slightly emotionally unstable today probably should leave this till later, amazing stuff.

  • Perhaps mentioned, but there's a Cameroonian boxer (Cindy Ngamba) playing for the Refugee Olympic Team who resides in Bolton

Id take out anything that is judged

From gymnastics to boxing

Totally agree. Anything subjective should be out

Just got in from the pub. Nothing says Olympic spirit quite like Snoop telling us to drop it like it’s hot in front of a scantily clad woman twerking in a micro bikini

Football out then.

Ref has to decide on whether or not a challenge is a foul.

Same in all sorts when a rule infringement has to be assessed.

I'm not sure you're comparing apples with apples

But regardless, football should indeed be out

As should golf

they've probably taken boxing out then they don't have to make the decision to stop letting blokes beat women up

What the fuck are E sports?

It’s a fair point. I guess for me I’m just not sure I consider something a sport where the entire outcome is simply who likes something more.

Bit more to it than that!

Rules there for judges to follow, but of course sometimes interpretation of a particular event or action will be variable.

At least we saw the coaches being able to make a challenge with their cards in some.

Conversely, our lass missed out on a potential gold in the shooting.

Clearly hit the target, but an official missed it.

A simple TV replay would have sorted it, but they don't use it.

You'd think that event would be an absolute, but clearly not.

But which football? Hearing that in LA the gridiron version of touch rugby will be in? Really?

I wonder who might take gold in that? I'm having a punt on St. Kitts, Bermuda and the Ascension Islands :rolleyes2:

There's only one football!

That shite the Americans turn up for- well, they're welcome to it.

Give them their gold now, and move on.

footballs got the world cup and euros

rugby same

golf has 4 majors

cricket has shit loads of forms and multiple world cups

non of these should be near the olympics

They're also some of the most widely played sports on the planet.

Which gives more countries the opportunity to compete.

206 countries were represented in Paris, I think the games will be alright without them

Athletics has World Champs every 2 years, European Champs every 2 years, loads of Diamond League meetings.....

Shall we kick Athletics out too?...

Missing the point.

Not unreasonable to assume football is played in everyone of those countries.

OK many won't qualify, but there will be plenty without access to some of the equipment, coaching and general facilities to even start some of the others.

Start taking some of the bigger sports out, and you risk alienating folk.

Apparently they do have TV replays in the major tournaments for this sport......Just not the Olympics, which seems really odd.

On the plus side, at least they're now getting rid of boxing in the Olympics. I quite like boxing, usually, but in the Olympics it's absolutely awful. Far too slow, and all about trying to get "points" rather than knocking the opposition out.

Skateboarding, BMX and Surfing I find a bit odd to be in the Olympics, and the introduction of "E-sports" really is weird to me

i'll give you e sports, utter nonsense

but prob attract a billion quid sponsorship deal

skateboarding, bmx etc, no less deserving than sailing and cycling, imo

Wasn't the surfing held on the other side of the world this year?

Didn't watch it, but I assume it wasn't in the Med
