Speeding fines

Featured Replies

I've just been caught by a speed camera doing 37 in a 30 (country rd not a built up area so god knows how it was a 30).

Will I get away with a speed awareness course do you reckon? Lancs Police. No points on my licence. And of previous good character apart from that incident with the horse - but it was dark and I'd had a drink 😁

Yep, definitely.

To be offered the option of going on a speed awareness course rather than paying a fine and getting points on your licence, you must fit the following criteria:

1. It must be your first offence in the last three years

2. You've been caught driving over 10% plus 2mph of the limit, but below 10% plus 9mph. In other words, if you were in a 30mph zone, this means anything between 35mph and 42mph, while for those driving in a 70mph zone, it means anything between 79mph and 86mph.

Where?

Join the Liverpool virtually if offered. It’s the cheapest and you not longer have to do it with it offending region.

I got the same a few years ago going from national speed limit into a village and late with the brakes as always... Speed Awareness on a "Zoom" call... that made me laugh

Tell us more about the horse, we won't tell (honest)

I've done it - do the course you get no points.

Impressive ... How fast do these things actually go?

It's funny because I've got a mate from primary school who does actually ride these things. He's an engineer - loves all things pre industrial revolution - he did like a race in one recently in plus fours! He's Northern and certainly no hipster.

Sounds right. Got my first ever speeding ticket this month - 80 in a 70 zone. I was given the choice of a speed awareness course, a fine & points or challenging it in court.

Will probably do the course, but have to see how much it costs and where my nearest one is.

Anyone know if they’re online / remote, or in person?

Did one after proof of our car going through a red light. I didn’t and the wife said she didn’t but there was a photo.
I chose to take the hit and did the course at the Arena near the ground. She needs the car for work, I don’t.
(I didn’t go through a red light)😉

This thread has got me thinking back... got done on the M11 in 1987 (I think)... copper pulled me onto the hard shoulder (won't do that these days) and told me "You don't use your mirror much, I've been following you for 3 miles"... "You lying fat bastard" was my reply... "Do you want to write that down?"... "Write down what you want, you're still a lying fat bastard"

Didn't end well 😞

Aye. I got done on Moss Bank Way. Tootling along at 43mph past Forest Road thinking the 30 limit started later. No option for a course

Ouch, that's harsh.

Do the course

Insurance will ask about points

Didn't get the option of the course for my offence,  72 on the M60 just as the 60mph signs came on.  I knew someone who went on the course pre zoom days and he said it was so dreadful he'd have preferred the points!

Went on one years back.

Was ok in fairness. Some fair points and tips.

Aye. Camera was catching folk from the rear. I lived in Smithills in the early 90s and thought I remembered the 30 zone as just before Halliwell Road. Ah well

Mrs went on one. Decided to play the arrogant know it all arsehole that she can be occasionally. Was well and truly put in her place in front of everyone. Learned her lesson :D

Yes at Bolton arena. Been to a lancs one too and 2 virtual. No idea what points I’m on but had 9 a few times.

Lots of motorway driving.

maybe one or none since I’ve moved to electric though as it’s not worth the charging time

If there's tickets or choc ices to flog, or he's late for a meal at the Groucho, he's like Bradley Wiggins on it. Wheelies, the lot  - specially since he got the electric one 🙂

Is it about time you picked up a copy of the Highway Code?
