I just listened to Evatt and Johnston's interviews. They mentioned that it's a tough place to go and that they're big and physical and their fans rallied behind them. Cambridge United. 22nd in Le

Having everyone in the box at corners is shit when the opposition have 11 men on the field, doing it when they have 10 is just pathetic.

  • Evatt shouldn’t be allowed anyway near any room where discussions about January signings are taking place.

Because teams don't lob balls upfield any more for the big guy to hold up or knock down for the little one.

There's 345 passes before the big guy gets a touch.

I don't want one dimensional football but why not have the option of crossing to a big awkward lad with a poacher sniffing around sometimes (Plan B+)

It'd be grand aye ha ha

I fucking hate modern football.

I watched my lads team spank a team 8-2 last week. All 8 goals came from their big fat goalie passing it to their spazzy full back.

Ask managers, not me.

That's the way football is going.

Like any fad, it has its pros and cons.

I keep forgetting what modern footie is all about... it's not about hurting the opposition, it's all about getting 60 odd percent possession and nicking a goal... i heard our manager defending how he was trying to "manage" the game at 1 nil up against 10 men... in my dinosaur world we should just have stormed in there, mixed it up and done a job.

The "modern" way is fkkin boring though, that's why I don't go to many matches any more, I want to be entertained  by big fat goalies and  spazzy full backs

We had Mixu too if we needed a change of tack

Good point that.

I suppose that's the flexibility of a manager within his squad. We still weren't a boot it and hope team though, even with him in.

Pretty sure Walker and Mixu weren't here at the same time

First saw Mixu at Grimsby on the first day of the season... great game, ended  3-3

Ricky the Reggae boy running down the wing stole the show for me

Can't recall Walker playing... I think you're right on that one

I'm thinking of the arsenal away cup win in 94

We had McGinlay, coyle and walker but not Mixu

The following season when we got promoted we have McGinlay, coyle and Mixu and definitely not walker

Also

Assuming you mean Gardner he didn't sign till 98 after he'd played in the WC as a teenager

I'm winging it here... no internet referencing

I went to Highbury and (I think) I saw Walker put one away and Zico bend it around the wall at the end after McKeown was sent off.

I also remember Ricardo having a blinder at Grimbo... I seem to recall that was the "Bolton Are Back" match with Mixu first  playing for us.

But it all fades into a big mish-mash... My Missus loves to "fact check" me on her Apple Tablet when I spout this shit

I've been to Grimsby 3 times and they were all pre-Gardner days.  Scott Green winner when there were 500 of us in the corner, and the two 1st games of the season; 3-3 Mixu game then 0-0.  As @Zico says, Gardner didn't join us till we'd left Burnden.

Correct.

1st 0-0 93 after the Preston last day. Blue and red stripped kit. Thomo hit the bar.

2nd 3-3 , pin stripe yellow kit, mixu, mendonca for them..

Gardner came well after. Earliest memory is his last min winner at West brom

What did you have for your tea last night?

Another good point. Maybe that's why the latter was brought in- for an alternative approach.

Think that was his league debut. Might've played in a cup game before that?

Also, McGinlay was a pretty decent target man. He'd win more headers and flick ons in one game than our current strikers have all season.

Could it have been Feb 1999?  We won 1-0

That will be the one.

I've no recollection of that game at all, had to look it up, Holdsworth 1-0.  We were on a 15 game unbeaten run.

Sure that was the petrol crisis. We had about 200 on.

Egg and chips. With absolutely no extra egg.

Extra egg isn't good for you, can cause long-term damage.

I was at the Grimsby away game, when Green scored the winner.

That was from a cross too!
