But we can literally trace back to how life was formed. Millions and millions of years of evolution have lead to where we are today. It didn't just happen.

We've come from single cell organisms to talking about it on a division 3 football forum.

Life forms have evolved. Those that haven't or didn't are now gone.

The only fine tuning is evolution.

Yeah I get that. But this is something different and has nothing to do with evolution

Have you thought about taking it back a step further? What are the chances of an intelligent being evolving to the point that it can create an entire universe and everything in it? And where did that being come from? Absolute fucking nonsense.

It depends whether you're talking about some sort of Abrahamic god figure - or whether you're open to ideas like simulation theory, which is another possible answer to the fine tuning problem. And one which some eminent minds have concluded is likely. Nick Bostrom probably being the most famous exponent.

Either "theory" still bares the same question. Who created the creator, be it a God or a being that set up a simulation? And who created them? And who created them? And who created them? And who created them? And who created them? And who created them? And who created them? And who created them? Ad infinitum. Absolute fucking nonsense.

I'm not fanatical about anything other than Bolton Wanderers. If you have legitimate evidence to back up a fantastical claim, I'll believe it.

Yes I understand that argument too. However, it doesn't get rid of the original problem.

I suppose it partly comes down to whether or not you are happy to accept the inconceivably small possibility as being a simple question of chance?

I prefer reality to fantasy. I'm happy to not believe some fucking nonsense that another person told me because it might make me feel better. I understand why a lot of people need a crutch to give them a sense of importance or purpose, but that's up to them.

Gareth's arse.

That's fine. But what's your preferred solution to the fine tuning problem?

also "a person who has very strong feelings about something (such as religion or politics)"

which is how it reads when you describe people of faith as "idiots" who "believe a load of fucking nonsense"

I don't have any strong feelings about religion. I just thinks it's fucking nonsense. Believe whatever fucking nonsense you want. But I'm allowed to say it's fucking nonsense.

There's a huge gap you're right and nobody knows.

The thought of it being some kind of creator though is absolutely absurd and just doesn't make a single bit of sense.

Unless that creator is a purple monkey, with wings of steel and three cocks, who happens to be called Gareth, of course.

You can say anything you want, however if you don't want to come across like a bit of a blowhard atheist, it's better to say I believe it's fucking nonsense. Or rather, I don't believe there is a God, given the scientific knowledge we have, but obviously I can't 100% say that there isn't a divinity.

And also to perhaps acknowledge that without this 'fucking nonsense' as a species we wouldn't have made great leaps forward, for once we try and start to understand our place in the universe, to try and make sense of things beyond our reasoning and what it means to actually be alive, we start to develop; religion formed the basis of social cohesion, a way to comprehend mortality, enhancing altruism, even bloody the basis of a meal as a communinal experience come from a religious basis (in fact most forms of social gatherings)

You mention that football is the only thing you care about on that level. In essence it fills that basic human need of shared rituals, community, routine, hope and indeed a form if collective tribalism in your life, others find these things in their religious faith.

Whatever mate. I did read it, but it's just a load of apologist shite. Just answer my really simple question. Do you believe in my purple monkey God called Gareth with wings of steel and 3 massive cocks or not? And if not, why not?

3 cocks with only 2 hands sounds tricky.

Be like turning a ships wheel.

That's evidentialism which is hegamonic in secular society and has been since the Enlightenment "I have to see conclusive evidence that there is a God, otherwise there isn't" which isn't beyond criticism because of the high standard it sets itself to prove conclusively God does not exisit - which we currently can't. Cheese's doxastic attitude seems to be of WK Clifford school that we always must have sufficient evidence for everyone of our beliefs. Which seems totally logical but then think about how many times in your life you do things beliveing in faith or on trust - it's not quite so easy to adhere to that particular philosopical maxim.

I shall now fuck off to pseud's corner and make my tea...😁

Who I am apologising for? Those who have faith? Careful up there on your badly constructed high horse.

I don't believe in any God, because I do prescribe to post modern secularism. But it doesn't mean I'm right, and people who don't subscribe to that are wrong.

You are right and those who don't subscribe are wrong. However it is absolutely their right to be wrong. 😊
