I agree with you but it might be wise not to discount the spirituality of empty Quavers bags.................

Well, they are made from dead creatures. The souls of millions of microscopic bacteria, diatoms and fanged fish in every bite. 😁

Even though I don't understand the evidence that science offers up I do believe it. That's a faith of sorts. Religious folk have a similar view on what they are believe. So who is wrong?  I don't believe in God and I doubt there is anything that anyone can say that will make me change my mind. But having said that I do have a good friend who has found God. He has gone into it nuts deep. This came out of the blue. It's not made him a bad person. But I don't think I would want to get into a debate with him on the subject.

I've heard this argument made before. But it doesn't hold up. You can test science to check that it's correct. So it's the total opposite of faith which you can't test by it's nature.

It's not a "faith", because if you felt inclined to understand it, you could look up the actual evidence.

I heard Ricky Gervais say something about this once.

He basically said if you were to rewind time and rewrite all the holy books - you'd end up with something completely different. But if you rewound time and tried to 'relearn' science - you'd end up with the exact same conclusions as we have now.

Sort of. He said if you burned all the books, in a thousand years all the religious texts would be entirely different, but all the science books would be the same.

So Gareth wouldn't exist?

That's the one!

That's what I was saying, in a round about sort of way. Faith is a belief with no real evidence to back it up. I believe the evidence that science offers but I'm unable to corroborate it. I'm just going off what the big brains say. The big brains are our preachers. That's the analogy I was trying to offer up.

Science changes though 🤷🏻

Now then, this 'GOD' discussion.

My brain hurts.

Can we show some decorum and get back to titwanks and clackervalves?

Well, the feeling of one is at least a start.

No it doesn't. Theories get refined as more evidence is discovered. Religious faith stays the same in spite of any evidence to the contrary.

So it changes then 😂

I doubt it's going to change and show evidence of some dude in the sky creating everything.

Nope. The scientific process is clearly beyond your comprehension.

I’ll listen to scientists. Not known liars on a footy forum 😉👍

Clearly not.

Only if a new theory explains the data better. Which is the opposite of religion where you stick to your beliefs despite new theories which eplain the data better 😁

And things like the structure of the atom, DNA, the human genome for example would still remain identical.

We might call them something different but the science would be the same.

Up to very recently the Catholic church said that all baby's who died at birth, or shortly after, didn't go to heaven they all went to purgatory. No exceptions; it's written. Now they say nah, that was bollox. Imagine what that does to the faith of a parent.

The church are making it up as they go along.

These decisions are based on no evidence whatsoever - just the whim of the latest Pope. And it will change again when they get a new one.

That's irrelevant.

You said that faith stays the same. Ask a parent about how strong their faith is now that the goalpost have been moved. Plenty have fucked faith off.

If they've fucked it off, they've lost their "faith".

You can just say - you make a very good point, Undies. Faith could change given the right circumstances.
