Something will be happening and it won't be good.

Was loads of power failures in the weeks leading up to 9/11 in 2001 apparently.

Just saying like.

Ours was off for 14 hours. Everything everywhere, stopped. Back to normal today. Their playing the Russia thing down, but you have to wonder.

Suggestions it may be as a result of a lack of "inertia" in the grid.

I had a read up, and it is possible.

They're linking it to renewables and their drawbacks, which is somewhat disingenuous. It's more of a rush towards the generation, without balancing out the infrastructure. Networks which haven't been updated accordingly.

Similar here.

Gives carte blanche to the sceptics.

Some loon on my round was blaming all those floods in Spain other week on EU legislation regarding dams.

Let's run with it. Bring the fat cats down.

We had a big national outage in 2019  when a lightning strike took out a windfarm in the North Sea. As you say the windmills don't have the inertia of a big old steam turbine generator and as a result the grid has less time to react before the supply drops below the minimum frequency.

We now need to re-configure our distribution grid to accommodate renewables and the change in demand from consumers but whenever I drive into the countryside all I see is "No Pylons Here" placards.

The generators could still be used; as part of an overall energy storage package.

Hydro electric, potential energy systems and hydrogen stores can all drive turbines.

Without investing in these associated systems, and indeed the upgrades to the distribution network, the effect, and benefits, of renewables won't be maximised.
