Popular Post ianofcleveleys Posted May 10, 2025 Popular Post Posted May 10, 2025 Spent a glorious afternoon of athletics in Carlisle at their County Champs, watched my young athlete pick up gold in the 100m and 200m. Good day's work 👍🥇 Quote
Bertie Posted May 10, 2025 Posted May 10, 2025 Was cutting the grass this afternoon 🙄and despite thinking TFFT last Saturday that the season was over, was missing it already - roll on Aug 2nd 🤪 Quote
Blondi Posted May 10, 2025 Posted May 10, 2025 It usually gives me the excuse to do fook all on a Saturday afternoon, I've done two long dog walks, cleaned my daughter's car, mowed the lawn and hoovered up all around the house, my Mrs called me a lazy twat last week and we haven’t spoken since then, surely I’m in the good books now? The odd place may be getting sufficient moisture from the soil, but generally it's going stalky and flowering. If you have to cut it, only take off the very top. Leave the cuttings on top too. Quote

Tonge moor green jacket Posted May 11, 2025 Posted May 11, 2025 I have enough difficulty explaining it to my mum! The number of moss laden, yellow lawns cut to within a mm or two of their roots is shocking. But it's ok- they're short! 😞 Quote
Rizlar Posted May 11, 2025 Posted May 11, 2025 Do what I have turned the bottom end of my garden into a wild flower garden for the bees and butterflies no mowing required rest is flagged . Quote

Best grass is that with its food not continually depleted. Amenity grass cut by the council is usually greener than domestic lawns scalped and not fed. Mowers often have a mulching facility now, which shreds the clippings finer and blasts them back through the remaining grass. Obviously if it is very long when it's cut then this may look unsightly with soggy clumps and a blocked mower. That's why I always tell folk not to cut grass too short, and perhaps trim more frequently. During drought conditions though, avoid cutting where possible. Quote
