Rotherham United (H)

Their form has gone down the pan since getting beat by Evatt’s Blackpool and their fans are generally unhappy with the manager and the Board but a few fans reckon they have the players but they’re not being played at the right time or in the right combo.

As long as our lot turn up with a professional attitude - ready to earn the right to play, respecting the opposition, and bringing teamwork and quality we’ll be fine IMO but I don’t want to see any more of that wastefulness or cowboy defending that sunk us on Saturday and I especially don’t want to see focus going walkabout if we concede.

We could do with a convincing win to keep us in contention and restore confidence -and hopefully Schumacher will have their heads in the right place to deliver.

Made life hard for ourselves yet again by not putting the game to bed much earlier. Seemed to coast through the 2nd half for the most part without the same level of intent. Most important thing is 3 p

I’ll have a bit of that Lusty. Not arsed who starts - if we have the mentality right then we win it (and we will).

3-0 Burstow brace (the start of a good run for him) and Gale.

Need to do a job on them after their daylight robbery 1-0 win here last season. Prob the most one sided game I’ve seen in 50 years of watching. 36-5 in goal attempts.

Ouch! That game was a lesson for us - “Possession is vanity, goals are sanity!”

They definitely have the players lusty and now that some important ones like Sam Nombe are returning from injury I think we need to be very careful on Friday and take nothing for granted. They’ve had a really poor season so far but have some genuinely good players with a blend of youth and experience. I still rate Joe Powell one of the best wide midfield players in L1 and his crosses are lethal. Young attacking midfield player Martha looks a real prospect and Man United prospect Dan Gore is finally finding form. They can be a bit suspect at the back but if we allow them to break forward we could pay for it. I’m hoping after Wycombe that the players have woken up but despite our good home record I do have worries about this one. It will be a tight game which on balance we should win but then I thought that last Saturday. 🥴

Well you’ll know better than me - you’re Yorkshire based aren’t you? I’ve only seen their “highlights” this year - so let us know if you get any significant local insights, but I do know they were on a long unbeaten run before the Blackpool game.
I also reckon Nombe will start against us.
Whatever, it’s down to us to turn up.

Fairly routine home win but I think these next 3 might be a low block and a little bit frustrating

Sam Nombe back will help them so maybe they'll be a bit more ambitious.

One of the 2 ultimate smash & grabs I have seen , the other being us away at City .

Im not usually overconfident but I dont see anything other than 3 points when we are at home . So nailed on to get beat .

After the weekends result, couldn't care less as long as we get the win and wins. Just get back on track.

I was surprised to see our fans in SSL v Exeter, first time since Wigan I think.  I wonder what's changed (other than expecting a bigger crowd than normal on Boxing Day, but not v Exeter).

More demand than initially expected. Mansfield on the other hand likely to be the lowest gate of the season.

Must win.

Think there were a few comps knocked out with the last home game before Christmas being historically the lowest weekend gate of the season

Absolutely dreadful scheduling. So chuffed we aren’t away that day.

Might be slightly helped by ticket prices being £10 cheaper than Boxing Day.  Less than 20k tickets for our only other night match this season, I think we'd have to lose v Rotherham for it to be that "low".  Last year we also played 26th and 29th Dec and oddly got more for the 2nd game v Lincoln despite losing the first to Barnsley (both 22k +).  It was a Saturday 3pm though.

Being local lusty and because of my 9 year old granddaughters football on Saturdays it’s not easy to get across to the Reebok if she kicks off at 11am so instead I sometimes take her to the New York and since she had a selfie with Sam Nombe he’s become her favourite player. Taking her training to the Rotherham Football Centre also means they’re well into the Millers scene but as you say they are a little disappointed in Matt Hamshaw and also their owner Tony Stewart and think he wants out so isn’t spending any more money. In fact there’s been interest in Sam Nombe from the Championship so if that’s still live he may not play on Friday and Stewart may pocket the fee. I’d love to see us in for him, he’d be just what we need, big, strong, quick and forceful. They paid £1.25m for him and I’m sure we’d get him for around that or less. Anyway whilst they’re not pulling up any trees at the moment, getting their injured back will definitely help and I certainly wouldn’t write them off on Friday if Nombe does play.

He must offer something more than goals then, his stats aren’t good for that.

Always have a recent bad feeling about playing rovrum.    Think it stems from the game they battered us maybe 4 years ago 3 nowt at home.

Attach to that about 30 years ago , around Christmas, maybe boxing day we played at their place,I had a massive hangover but was of the age where I could still get up and go again.   Stood behind nets, pre game warm up and mark bloody Patterson smashed a shot straight in me face, beer and claret all over shop.

Posh git drinking claret at the match…

Memories of Clive Mendonca and a last kick of the game equaliser in a 2-2  away always makes me dislike games against Rotherham .

And Clive Mendonca banging in a hattrick away at Grimsby on the first day of the season makes me hate him more

Looking like a bumper crowd. Apart from the South Stand block on sale there isn’t two seats together left

Anyone know how many the Yorkies have sold so far ?
